Title: DEMOCRATS ONLY: Who would you vote for in this Matchup?
Post by: Robespierre's Jaw on March 07, 2008, 12:21:17 AM
This shall be interesting, to see if many Obama supporters decide to jump ship to Team McCain or stay aboard on Team Hillary.

The Supreme Court is more important than integrity, so Clinton.

I assure you the results here would not be reflective.

If I had just those two choices, McCain, so that we would have a good shot of electing a real Dem in 2012, rather re-nominating the female Joe Leiberman.

Would not vote for either.

Clinton obviously.

She is far from Joe Lieberman. The latter supports John McCain's policy on Iraq and has staked his entire career on it. Hillary has staked her career on universal health care and has a slightly more moderate position than Obama on Iraq and national security matters.

I could never bring myself to vote for McCain.

Apologize to Senator Leiberman immediately. :P

eight years ago, I would have voted for McCain.  Not a chance now though.  I've only voted for a Clinton once, and I will never do so again.

Since my vote for president does not matter, as I am a liberal in Utah, I would go write-in or third-party.  Slight possibility of Nader.

I specifically left the Democrats and became a Republican to support McCain.

Wooo, our Democrats are an impressively accurate sample of the democratic voters...

Initally i think a significant chunk of Obama support would be very reluctant to back Clinton, but as the general election wore on it's possible that the Democrat base would solidify around Clinton - but plenty of Obama's support has not come from the tradtional 'party base', furthermore '08 would not be like '04 in the sense it would not be a race to energise the respective party's bases.

Ultimatley, a greater number of independents and democrats will support McCain in a race against Clinton than in a contest involving McCain and Obama... at the same time, Nader is also likley to do better in such an election... having said that, the degree to which McCain and Nader would benifit from facing Clinton rather than Obama remains unclear and would depend to a signficant extent on the nature of the campaign as a whole.

I love the "Hillary isn't liberal enough for me" crowd.  8 years ago they all thought that Al Gore was too centrist and that by voting Nader they could somehow push America to the left.  HOW DID THAT WORK OUT!?!?!?!

Ummmmm.........you realize that the "Hillary isnt liberal enough" crowd is 1/100th the size of the "Hillary is a calculated machine dirty politician" crowd, right?

Which is a perfectly fine reason to oppose her in the nomination process.  But in the general election the stakes are high and choosing to sit on the sidelines (aka vote for Nader) only aids the greater of 2 evils.

The policy positions of Obama and Clinton are virtually identical.  An Obama voter saying he would vote for McCain over Hillary says "I care more about the man than what he supports".  And frankly that is the definition of a fanatic.

I vote Hillary, but I would be happy with a John McCain administration.  I'm one of the few voters who are actually satisfied with all three possibilities; Obama, Clinton, and McCain.

However, I do NOT want a liberal or a conservative Supreme Court.  I want no liberal activists and no conservative activists.  I want strict constitutionists who do not legislate from the bench and who do not let their personal opinions and beliefs affect their interpretation of the law.

People will say one thing and vote another.

I of course support Clinton, and would support Obama and would've supported any of the Democratic candidates.

At this point I really don't know. I started out as a Richardson supporter, thought Obama was inexperienced and was completely turned off by his uninformed scientologist-esque supporters, liked Biden and Dodd, and was ambivalent towards Clinton. As the race dragged on I came to loathe Clinton and found myself completely won over by the Obama camp. Unfortunately Obama is only slightly better than your average politician, and although I would almost certainly vote for him in the general, it wouldn't be without slight reservations. I agree with Hillary more than McCain without a doubt, but I really wouldn't mind a McCain presidency at all. I've become something that I thought I'd never be: a swing voter.

You realize in this era...this essentially means conservative activist.
