funny, but I wouldn't be shocked if he did. I wonder who the LP is going to be up with this year, I'm not really privy to the details of what's going on with them...I was one of five people in my county who voted for Badnarik :D

Wasn't he in the Green Party last week? I think the next step is for him to shave his head and "accidentally" release a sex tape.

I'll vote for Gravel without hesitation. Him and Dennis were the only candidates I liked on either side.

Hmm... the plot thickens. Fmr. Rep. Bob Barr who joined the LNC in 2006 chimes in:

Quote
It is a distinct honor to have another former member of Congress within the Libertarian Party," says Barr. "Just as Senator Gravel believes Democrats have lost touch with the American public, I too concluded Republicans had lost their core principles, and could no longer associate myself with the GOP.  While coming from opposite sides of the aisle, Senator Gravel and I definitely agree on the fundamental need for systemic change in our political system, and that the only way we have of effecting that change is by supporting and working in the Libertarian Party, which is the only political party in America that consistently works in word and deed to maximize individual liberty and minimize government power."

Gravel/Barr? Barr/Gravel?

Someone associated with the Gravel campaign now also says that he's interested in pursuing a fusion Libertarian and Green Party run

Interesting that he was actually on the Dem debates earlier on...

My thoughts exactly. When I first heard the news, I actually didn't believe it.

No he was just endorsing a candidate for the Green Party presidential nomination.  I bet that will come back to bite him if he wins the Democratic nomination.

Allegedly though that endorsement was just to piss off Nader who had done something vaguely offensive to Gravel a few weeks ago.

An e-mail sent out today (emphasis mine):

Quote
A Personal Message from Mike Gravel

Dear friend,

I wanted to update you on my latest plans before news gets out. Today, I am announcing my plan to join the Libertarian Party, because the Democratic Party no longer represents my vision for our great country. I wanted my supporters to get this news first, because you have been the ones who have kept my campaign alive since I first declared my candidacy on April 17, 2006.

The fact is, the Democratic Party today is no longer the party of FDR. It is a party that continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism -- all of which I find anathema to my views.

By and large, I have been repeatedly marginalized in both national debates and in media exposure by the Democratic leadership, which works in tandem with the corporate interests that control what we read and hear in the media.

I look forward to advancing my presidential candidacy within the Libertarian Party, which is considerably closer to my values, my foreign policy views and my domestic views.

Please take a moment to make your most generous donation to my presidential campaign today. $10, $20, $50 -- whatever you feel you can afford.

I want to thank you all for your continued support.

Gratefully yours,

Mike Gravel

So the Democrats have given up on the ways of FDR which he believes in so dearly... so he logically joins the Libertarians?

FDR = Libertarian Party?

Get this man some pills!

Wasn't this guy the second choice for the nomination for BRTD and one of the D-NY clowns?  A Green party endorsement and now a defection to the Libertarians?  Way to go, guys.

Makes sense only if he also runs for the nom. As to the Green endorsement, well that guy (what was his name, Johnson? I forget) has no chance anyways.

I can't really see a Gravel/Barr ticket. It's not as if they share many issue positions. Of course, I suppose that was thrown out as a joke anyways.

I continue to support Mike Gravel for the Presidency of the United States.

Er... didn't FDR in many ways create the military industrial complex? He, at the very least, definitely oversaw the creation of it.

It would make him more relevant than now.  Maybe he can dye his skin blue like the Libertarian in Montana who tipped control of the Senate.

Hahaha. I'm so glad Gravel is still in the race, he makes such great entertainment.

If he doesn't win the presidency he should secede individually from the Union.

The second choice for the nomination out of him, Obama and Hillary.

It's much like a choice between going to a keg party, a college class, or getting shot in the head. The college class is obviously my second choice, but that says little about anything except the third.

Now, we only have to invite the Nazi's so THIS (http://www.nazi.org) can be a reality.

In a McCain/Clinton/Barr race, I'd almost certainly vote for Barr, so long as Gravel's nowhere near the ticket.
