As for Kerry, he doesn't need Florida as bad. All he has to do is hold the Gore states and steal a few small states and it's over. States such as Colorado, Tennesse, Missouri, W Virgina+New Hamphire, Arizona. Bush must win 2 of 3 from Penn, Ohio, Florida to win. Kerry only needs to win 1 of 3 and he will still have a shot. If he loses Florida he almost certainly loses, unless he manages to keep every other state, and take several Gore states. And even then, it would be close.

Bush is not a "lock" on Florida, but he does have a mild lean. If Bush loses Florida it's all over anyway as Ohio, NH, WV, Nevada, Missouri are gone then too. Kerry must have Pennsylvania. Both Ohio and Pennsylvania have moved 3% towards the national average - Kerry is a bit up in Pa, Bush is a bit up in Ohio, both are right on the edge either way. |
