Title: Edwards' credibility
Post by: Huckleberry Finn on September 22, 2004, 04:25:28 PM
My friend just came back from the USA (Maryland), where he spent year as a researcher. He told me that most voters consider John Edwards as a pretty boy who hasn't any real credibility. Is that so?

Another interesting thing what he told was about war veterans. He had discussed with many Iraq war veterans who had told that they were strong Bush supporters before the war, but had changed their minds totally in the war.

Most Republicans do

Sure.

But I think that my friend meant all Americans and particularly swing voters.

That's the general impression I get from people here (also in Maryland).

Really, publicity-wise, it's Bush/Cheney vs. Kerry/???...oh, that's right, Edwards.

He has credibility.  The problem with Edwards is that he isn't a good fit with Kerry as a VP.  Now, if the ticket was reversed, I think Kerry would make a good VP choice for Edwards.

He's too easy to label as a firebrand, IMO. All one has to do is listen to him - it's just all two Americas and 19th century era labor rhetoric - blood of the working man and stuff like that. I don't know that he's lost credibility as much as the hype didn't pan out. And all of a sudden we haven't heard a thing from him in... oh, months, maybe. Weeks at least, aside from the occasional soundbite or whatever.

The Edwards/Cheney debate should be interesting. Two astoundingly different styles. Cheney is mechanical and cerebral and Edwards is fire and brimstone from an economic point of view.

Ambulance-chasers in general have low credibility in the US (trial lawyers). Edwards pretty-boy look doesn't help.

Bush is winning veterans by a massive margin.
