Title: If You Had a Time Machine
Post by: humder on January 03, 2009, 03:56:37 PM
Who would you want to tell about the 2008 election if you could go back in time?

The Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan in 1960, whoever that was.

It would drive him insane.

Jesse Helms, just to tell him that that Obama would win North Carolina. I'd also want to tell Orval Faubus and Theodore K. Bilbo.

Obama's dad.

"You, after traveling all the hell around the world, knocking up random women everywhere, have fathered the future President of the United States of America. So keep on going, your genes got magic in them, see if you can father any other cool people! Playing the numbers like you do, the odds are in your favor."

You know, I wonder what the reenactors at Plimoth Plantation and Colonial Williamsburg have been instructed to say. The Pilgrims wouldn't have any idea about the United States or a diverse society, but the Williamsburg residents surely would. I am sure kids will be asking.

LBJ. He said he was costing the Democrats the South for a generation... it turns out to have been two, but in the end, Obama won a few states.

Otherwise, Frederick Douglass.

How about going back to 2005 and telling Hillary Clinton?

I'd rather go back in time to prevent stuff in my life than tell random people about Obama. :P

The problem with going back in time is that it might change history! For example, somebody could try to stop Obama.

What they think about America having a black President.

Considering it would be the most amusing to tell both Jefferson Davis and P.W. Botha that an African-American would ever be elected President of the United States then of course, I would tell them, bearing in mind if I had a time machine.

If I had a time machine, I would realize that if I go back in time and tell someone about the election, then that has already happened and they already found out about the election result from me. Knowing this, there wouldn't be any motivation to go back and tell them. So it wouldn't actually ever happen.

myself, to early 2004, so I could post it here and constantly guarantee that Obama is the next president for 4+ years.

This, and this:

myself: in order to begin betting on it ASAP

And start the betting either after Obama gives his speech at the 2004 Convention, or after he announces he's forming an exploratory committee, so as to receive the longest odds possible.
