Title: Presiding Officer Voting Booth
Post by: Franzl on March 19, 2009, 06:05:05 PM
As Purple State suggested...we should start this.

I'm only creating a new thread to gain my fellow delegates' attention.

Please preference the following candidates who have been nominated:

Smid
Purple State
Afleitch

(Does anybody object?)

I have no objections nor any other nominations.

1. Purple State
2. Smid

As I mentioned, I accepted the nomination because I think I could do a good job, but I think the other two could likewise do a good job. I therefore cast my vote:

1. Purplestate
2. Afleitch
3. Smid.

[1] Smid
[2] Purple State
[3] Afleitch

Purely because Afleitch is running for Senate, and may not devote as much time as this. Still, he'd make a great PO.

While I like Smid and second pref'ed him, people need to remember he has a giant proposal of his own. PS is entirely unbiased.

This is the predominant reason I voted myself last and also why I suggested that a non-delegate may make a good PO.

Nothing against you personally though, you'd make a marvelous PO despite that. :)

Heh, can't even vote for myself.

I would say leave the vote open for 48 hours? Or until all delegates that have signed in vote.

current result:

Purple State    5 (Marokai, Smid, MaxQue, Meeker, dead0man)
Smid      3 (Franzl, Daniel Adams, Hashemite)

still to vote: 11 (Verily, Lief, AndrewCT, BrandonH, DWTL, Afleitch, SPC, Ilikeverin, Lewis Trondheim, Bgwah, CultureKing)

not signed in: 1 (Conor Flynn)

required majority (as of now): 10/19

I don't think we should put a time limit on this, and should keep it open until one candidate reaches a majority.

PS is impartial. Smid is fantastic and so is his idea so to have him contribute without the need to be 'impartial' is preferable.

Precisely my thought - that PS as PO would allow me to contribute without trying to act as an impartial chair.

The interesting thing about this election is that one candidate can't vote for himself and the other two candidates didn't vote for themselves (and indeed, both voted for the candidate who can't vote).

Is a majority needed or a plurality? Or will second preferences come into play?

Someone proposed earlier than we wait a majority or than all people has voted, whichever happens first.

But it is possible, because there are 3 candidates, that a formal majority of 10+ won't be reached by any candidate.

Purple State has 9 and I can almost guarantee one of the last four will vote for him, so not reaching a majority should not be a problem.

I'd say, assume the chair immediately :)

Indeed, the sooner the better. Congratulations, PS. :)

Afleitch.

Sorry for not voting earlier - I'm currently suffering from forum ennui.

Thanks everyone. I have opened a thread for the formation of the Rules of Order. I have also opened a thread regarding proposals for different styles of government.

Lets get this going.
