Granted the sample error is large for such a small one, but so far, it seems to be a consistent pattern. I guess the real test will be when we see what the Jewish numbers are in Orange County, which has about 150,000 Jews.

Of course, a lot of these rural Democrats aren't voting Democratic much anymore. In registrations, though, that makes for the youngest voters being the least Democratic. On the other hand, in Marin County, Republicans aren't even breaking double digits among those under 25.

I once read that Fresno has 2,000-2,500 or so Jews (which is fairly reasonable for a 2% electorate factoring out the non-voters), but of course they seem to have blended in fairly well. Well, since we have Hispanic and most Asians already, I just took the "Other" percentage and assumed a break-down based about on the '08 estimates for black, whites, the other Asian demographics and other ethnicities...well, it's rough. But it's ballpark and I think it demonstrates the point well enough. :P A white person in Los Angeles probably knows at least twice as many Jews, on average, as a percent of their social group, as one in Marin. Or so goes my theory. So among the people you do interact with, Jews make up a significant part of the population (this is assuming most jews are white and I think that assumption is reasonable to make). Also Marin county is a mostly white, rich and liberal place just north of the city. Why is it surprising if 8% of them are jews? The reason: Just over 4% of Mendocino County voters belong to the Natural Law Party. I don't want to spend bandwidth to download the state file again, but offhand that's over eight times the rate of NLP registration in Orange County.
Obama also beat Democratic+DTS in Marin County, less surprisingly. His performance in Mendocino versus registration is pretty impressive for a less affluent county though, even if I imagine nearly all of the non-wasted NLP vote (edit: no pun intended) flowed to him.
