I feel stupider for having read this thread.
2  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: 2008: Obama/Biden vs. Romney/Pawlenty on: May 03, 2009, 08:20:37 pm
I was debating about this with my friend the other day.  He claimed Romney would've made it close due to his economic "expertise," but I think for every voter Romney picks up on the economy, he would lose one of McCain's remaining moderates.  However, Romney did have a better organization than McCain (though, just about everyone beats McCain in that department).  However, there is lower turnout among social conservatives due to no Palin and Romney being a Mormon, though it's not significant.  And no, Romney doesn't make Michigan close, at all.  Same with Pawlenty in Minnesota.

Something like this I suppose:

Obama wins 374-164

Arizona might be a longshot, but whatever.

Czech Republic?
4  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: Primaries for Past Elections on: May 01, 2009, 05:02:51 pm
I would have to think that Johnson wins Maryland and Kentucky in 1960, maybe even West Virginia (he may have been stronger than Humphrey in that state).
5  General Politics / Individual Politics / Re: Forum Dems - Who do you want in PA? on: May 01, 2009, 12:15:58 pm
Specter, but I would've changed registration to vote for him in the Republican primary, so I don't really care what party he runs in.

Very tough choice between RFK and HHH, but I went with RFK.

I'm happy, but I hope he doesn't swtich on EFCA.

10  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Past Election What-ifs (US) / Re: If the tickets flipped: Biden/Obama Vs. Palin/McCain on: April 19, 2009, 04:33:20 pm
Assuming that Palin has a slightly better performance as a Presidential candidate (otherwise, how would she have gotten the nomination?):

391-147

I see Palin's vote declining a lot more in states that Obama won than in states that McCain won, though it would decline enough overall to flip some McCain states.  The one area, Applachia, where Biden would have performed better than McCain is also prime Palin country, IMO, which is why Biden doesn't pick up too many electoral votes.
11  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: Huck Keynoting in Iowa on: April 15, 2009, 10:58:27 am
He's gonna make a run at it.  He was really only a victory or two away from the conservatives rallying behind him, and Romney split his vote badly in the South as soon as he decided to go with the right-wing, God/Reagan-loving edge.

You know, he would've won SC in the primary if Romney wasn't around.

He would've won if Thompson weren't around.

Just a question out of curiosity, why do you have an "Obama '08" pic on the side, but a "McCain Democrat" sig?

I was a McCain supporter most of the election but switched to Obama sometime around September/October.

13  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Congressional Elections / Re: Is it possible for a Democrat to win upstate NY and lose? on: April 03, 2009, 12:42:52 pm
Just for the hell of it, let's say her opponent is Giuliani, and he gets moderates on his side again.  It would have to be a really odd combination of something like this I imagine:

Gillibrand:
Upstate
Manhattan (60-40)?
Brooklyn: 65-35
Bronx: 70-30
Queens: 51-49

Giuliani:
Long Island: 60-40
Staten Island: 60-40
Westchester: 55-45

And even with that, I don't know if Gillibrand could lose.

Barak's ego needs to be kept in check.  It screwed over the Syria negotiations in West Virginia and now he's abandoning any principles just to have what little power he can get his hands on.

Specter will vote against cloture for the EFCA. And there goes the only group of people that still supported this idiot.

Now I'm more likely to vote for him.

Something like this:

474-64

I only gave Alaska to the Republican because I assume Palin is the candidate in this scenario.

How can Obama win Nebraska's two most urban districts and Kansas but not the popular vote in Nebraska. Seriously.

It bugs me when people have Obama winning NE-01 and 02 but not statewide but whatevs.

It depends on what the percentages are. If Obama loses big in NE-03, and only barely wins in the other two, he would still lose the state.
^^^^^^^^

Exactly what I was going for.  Perhaps something like this:

1st District: Obama wins 50-49
2nd District: Obama wins 52-47
3rd District: Obama loses 59-39

Assuming turnout in all districts is the same (which I know it isn't), then Obama only gets 47% of the vote statewide.
22  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: Obama vs. Limbaugh? on: March 07, 2009, 07:20:56 pm

Obama gets at least 65%, and Republican turnout would be very, very low.

Neutral

But one of the most interesting religions out there.  Certainly, in my opinion, the only truly "American" religion.
