General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Do you Support "Cash For Clunkers"?

What about all those college kids that want to buy their first car? Think the supply side of the market changed a bit? It is wonderful. They voted for Obomonation. Now kiss his GM ring.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a lot of the cars out there for college students to buy won't qualify for the program because their fuel economy would be too high. For example, I drive an older Corolla. It gets like 28 MPG. Even if it does qualify, I refuse to call it a clunker! Like others, I'm ambivalent. It's good to get people out into the showrooms, but the long-term positive or negative effects on the environment, the economy, and the auto industry have yet to show themselves - it will be vindicated or trashed based on that.

Old Navy and Gap Outlet clearance racks. I usually get pretty good deals on jeans - the last time I bought them at the Gap, I paid $5.99 each. For shoes, I buy Reebok Classics at the Reebok outlet store.

General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Falwell's Liberty University bans college Democrats

''Liberty'' University.
Someone should sue them for usurpating the word ''Liberty''. There is no liberty in this place.
It would be really ironic if they banned the College Libertarians. Given what is known about Liberty University, they would probably try to ban a Ron Paul group or something similar if there were actually any supporters there. I doubt there are any "real" Libertarians who would even consider Liberty U.--but then, I would have thought the same about any Democrats. IIRC, Ron Paul spoke at Liberty.

Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: The Cheney Presidency

I've got one.
Tuesday January 20, 11:51am: A man attempts to assassinate Obama to prevent a black man from becoming President. The Secret Service jump on him, but he still manages to fire a shot, which hits George W Bush, who was standing next to Obama.
11:53am: George W Bush is pronounced dead.
11:55am: Dick Cheney grabs Obama's bible and gets sworn in.
12:00pm: Obama grabs back his bible, and gets sworn in, ending the brief Cheney administration.
George W. Bush is already dead in this scenario. I think it was a joke. I'm not sure if this is meant to be for real.
Same, but whether it is or not, it's pretty entertaining!

Mark Warner will not challenge Barack Obama.
Agreed, even if Obama's first term is as cataclysmic as depicted in Garrison's scenario. Anywho I do have a question regarding your EV map NiK. Why do you believe that if such a scenario were to occur in three years time that a Bloomberg/Hagel ticket would win states? Although a different period of American history altogether but if Perot couldn't win any states, nor can Bloomberg. Bloomberg probably has a tad more credibility with the electorate. I pretty much agree with Nixonia - if Bloomberg was to win any states. I just think 2008 was his best shot. You might be able to swing NC to Obama, as well. I just don't see Bloomberg/Hagel having a big enough impact there to tilt the election.

Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: Will Chris Christie run?

NEW JERSEY. Politics1.com sources confirm that former US Attorney Christopher Christie (R) will enter the 2009 race for Governor of New Jersey later this month. Christie will be the GOP frontrunner to challenge Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine. Christie has received praise from both parties for his successful high-profile prosecutions of top elected officials around the state, including Newark Mayor Sharpe James. Corzine suffers from low approval ratings and a recent poll shows Corzine and Christie deadlocked. Other Republican primary candidates include Franklin Township Mayor Brian Levine, State Assemblyman Rick Merkt and former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan. www.politics1.com
