I don't know much about the NYC mayors race but New York has the best public transportation of any American city. You would think most politicians would be very pro public transportation. I have only been to New York city once but was very impressed with the public transportation options, of course I come from Detroit where there is almost no public transportation. New York city is not a car city at all and should not be, increasing the public transportation options should be a top issue for all elected officials in NYC. NYC should build some bike highways like they have in Copenhagen.

won't Michigan most likely be down to 13 seats by 2030, losing a seat in 2020 and 2030 and maybe even down to 12 seats by 2030. No matter what we are probably losing for sure in 2020 and would have to have serious growth not to lose in 2030. But of course thats 18 years off and things can change big, but we would need like 8% growth right? It is crazy to think Michigan had 19 seats in 1970.

Wayne county Michigan still losing people but only down to 1,792,000 from 1,820,000 in 2010. So Wayne county is on pace to lose 140K by 2020. Also on the bright side Michigan only lost 275 people in the last 2 years compared with 55k between 2000 and 2010. So Michigan will still lose a congress seat in 2020 unless we have some huge growth in the next 8 years but are we at risk to lose 2 seats. Does anyone know, would negative growth cause it.

how is he a hack? Krazen sure but Vosem I don't see it. If he is a hack a good amount of people on the left here are too, and I don't think thats true. People throw the word hack around too much especially at more right wing members of the forum.

The more I think about it the Democrats should have raised minimum wage back in 09-10 when they controlled congress. Now it will most likely be until 2017 that minimum wage will be raised. I know it was just raised and/or was in the middle of a increase but you never know how long it will be before it is raised again. And the 7.25 it is right now is way below the equivalent of 11 dollars or so it was in the early 70's adjusted for inflation in todays dollars. Maybe a agreement can be made to pass some kind of increase in the Republican controlled house but I doubt it. The Democrats really need to push this in 2014 even if there is really no chance of them taking back the house. And all Democratic candidates for president need to push this issue hard. At least 9 dollars maybe 10 by 2016 should be the democrats main campaign issue.

yes of course, even back when I was a republican I preferred them. I live in a 72.8% Democratic county (Wayne county Michigan), but my city voted 51.32 for Obama and 47.83 for Romney and my precinct voted 373 for Obama and 362 for Romney. Bush in 2004 was the last Republican to win my city by 4 votes, he also won it in 2004 but didn't win a majority of the vote in either election. 70%+ areas can be misleading and have pockets of of opposite party support.

Ok Granholm left office with very low approval, in the low 30's she is as unpopular than Snyder current is running her would be stupid. Unfortunately the Democrats only have one good candidate, Gary Peters. I think the Democrats have a better chance holding the senate seat, than governor but a good shot at taking both. They could hold the senate with a lesser candidate than governor. If Peters runs for Senate I think Snyder has a little bit of a better chance at winning reelection. 2014 won't be a Republican year in Michigan either due to Snyder and the Republicans unpopularity over right to work. If the Democrats can get turnout up Republicans chances go down than if this was a regular midterm election. Amash is not a good candidate, too conservative, from the wrong part of the state. I'm not sure he gets 45% in a senate race vs Gary Peters. Gary Peters is from the right part of Michigan. He represented central Oakland county in congress before redistricting beating congressman Joe Knollenberg in 2008. Now he represents part of Detroit and part Oakland due to redistricting and the Republican gerrymander, but he would win Oakland county easy if he ran for Senate. Republicans might have a chance if they had a popular Republican from Oakland county in a good republican year. I think a generic democrat would beat Amash in Oakland county/metro Detroit.

I don't live in the ghetto and certainly don't shop there so I don't have much experience with them. I shop at the nice Kroger that they just remodeled and added on too. There are probably some interesting middle eastern stores in Dearborn or mexican ones in southwest Detroit, of course Dearborn isn't really ghetto.

anyone think if Puerto Rico becomes a state we could get a larger House of representatives for good. I guess they would raise it however many seats (5?) until the next census then reappoint all 435 seats in 2020. But several states would lose seats. Could there be enough support to raise it. I guess you would have support to raise it to 440 if Puerto rico got 5 seats, but what about even more like 500 seats. One of the problems I see is I doubt the American people would support it. Anyone know how many seats they would get and what states would lose most likely lose seats if they just reappointed to 435 in 2020.

As soon as the lawn dries out from the recent rains, I will be getting outside and walking and enjoying this beautiful early Spring weather. We've got 2 1/2 walkable acres without having to get out on the road.
Aren't there sidewalks where you live or a paved trail where you can walk. You should get out there regardless of the weather. My friend and I went bike riding yesterday and it was only 38 degrees when we left and 33 when we got back, but once you get out there it's not so bad.
