So... should we add a C to LGBTQQIAAP now?

You poor, tortured souls!  I can't imagine what hell you all must be going through in reading his posts!  Cry

So what are we missing here then?  I've seen nothing to indicate a lack of respect for women thus far (I did say I haven't read much on the subject of women here - I tend to avoid those boring flamewars like the plague).  And he only shows the respect for religion and conservatives that they usually deserve, of course.

With all due respect, for a moderator, you certainly don't seem to have seen the generalizations he makes.

What a strange post.  The first half of your sentence had so little relevance to the second.  Anyway, do I need to ask you the same question again?

'Works as a cashier at Walmart'.

Am I missing the relevance of this racist old lady?

How about the one I quoted, is that enough for you?

What's the problem there?  Your taking that post and immediately comparing him to Todd Akin is absurd and probably insulting.

The fact that he has any FF votes at all shows how unbelievably male this forum is.

Chill out, RandomNewbie.  Memphis is otherwise fine.

Well he's a FF on everything that doesn't have to do with women...

^  Especially religion.  And I'll admit that I haven't even read any of his posts on women to know what's got everybody so butthurt about him.

It was a shame we didn't get to hang out when he came to town a few weeks ago.

I read a book once that mentioned how Ronald McDonald has been portrayed as a "basketball-playing hipster" in some McDonald's advertising, and ever since I have associated the term "hipster" with Ronald McDonald, who has creeped me out ever since I was a young child.

Christian Protestant (Seventh-day Adventist, though I'm considering possibly becoming a Seventh Day Baptist.)

You're not Jewish?  What was all that talk about not going to Record Store Day because it fell on your 'Sabbath'?  Shouldn't that be Sunday, not Saturday?

He's a Seventh-day Adventist.

On what day did God rest?

Jeez, you religious folk keep finding new and exciting ways to confuse the hell out of everybody else.
61  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Congressional Elections / Re: ...and now Frank Lautenberg may never return to the Senate again on: April 21, 2013, 09:30:59 am
It's generally customary for Senate appointees not to seek election in their own right. I can't recall any who did so recently other than Barrasso.

Unless an apointee was clearly a caretaker from the beginning (like Kirk, Kaufman, Godwin, Cowan), then almost all seek election on their own.

Out of current Senators the following were orginally apointees that went to win an election on their own: Murkowski, Bennet, Heller, Menendez and Gillibrand.

Three posts earlier.

It's also my sister's birthday today.  And unlike these other catastrophes listed, this one keeps happening every year.

Quote
Seeking leniency from the jury during closing arguments, Cook quoted Shakespeare: “The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven, upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.”

Cook started to attribute his quote to Shakespeare when he caught himself.

“I realized that I was in Dade County, Ga.,” Cook says. “The people of Dade County are good but simple people. They don’t know who the hell William Shakespeare is. They may think he’s some guy named Bill from Tennessee, or worse from Alabama, and sentence my client to death.”

So Cook cleared his throat and told jurors, “And that’s from Song of Solomon in the Bible.” The jurors all nodded in reverence.
66  Forum Community / Forum Community / Re: Do you consider me a hipster? on: April 20, 2013, 08:39:40 pm
Of course not.  Hipsters like retro stuff because it's either ironic, cool or both.  You like retro stuff because you're ridiculously old-fashioned.

I actually used to for a few months when my family first moved to Ohio, while my parents were still house-hunting.  I was still too young to remember it though.
Wait, where are you from originally?

I was born in Cali.

Apparently someone dropped the f-bomb on WCVB and the reporter began to apologize and then said, "You know what, it's 2 Am and bullets have been fired."

This is how normal people behave, you see.

What's your point?

Societal rules against swearing are usually suspended in times of great stress.  Just something to think about, that's all.

I didn't say otherwise.  You seem to be insinuating that I disapproved of it or something.

This really isn't the time or place for this discussion, but all I'll say is that you're apparently missing the point in a quite dramatic way.

BRTD on music he dislikes:

It's nothing but screeching intolerable noise.

He's once again employing the strategy known as 'doubling down':
