I think most white Americans bailed when the left got looney, and became obsessed with identity politics.

They began representing small segments of the population and calling the rest "deplorables".

The only one obsessed with "identity politics" is the one who wants to ban a religion from coming here

And people who are transgender from using the bathroom.

Excessive hyperbole alert.

10  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Neil Gorsuch Confirmation Hearing *DISCUSSION AND LIVE COMMENTARY* on: March 27, 2017, 02:35:40 pm
Looking at that list, it reads like 57-43 to me, with Manchin, Tester, King, Donnelly, and Heitkamp going for cloture. Followed five minutes later by the nuclear option.

add Warner, Bennett, and Coons, and that's 60.
A) I think its more 56-44 I don't see King going over heck I can see Tester as well also B) Warner, Bennett, and Coons are not likely yes

They may not vote for him, but they will support allowing a vote and save the filibuster for another day.

Except on Politico it says (well more than says, it has up a video of Coons actually saying it) that Coons thinks there is not 60 votes, and the "tragedy" of the nuke button being successfully pushed is "almost a certainty."  So Coons has trouble getting to the number 60.

Schmuckey better cut a deal with McConnell because the next guy isn't going to be anywhere near as milk-toast as Gorsuch, and if McConnell pushes the button then, the Dems are truly screwed.
There is no guarantee Trump gets a next guy an if he does it might be replacing a consertive justice so go for it

Agreed, no guarantee but at 84 for Ginsburg it's reasonable to suggest she may be next.  Kennedy is no spring chicken either.
That generation is still holding on so I wouldn't beat on it an Kennedy is replacing rw with rw

There are degrees of right wing (if that's what rw stands for), and the future options for SCOTUS will make Gorsuch look like a gift.

Asking cities to comply with laws on the books is so radical.  Roll Eyes

Thank Obama!

Not banned, muted.

Since neither Dave nor Nym has been online in the last 24 hours, it sounds like there's been a coup, and one of you decided to give him the 50 point infractions of your own initiative.  Tongue

As you know, we have the authority to go for a mod review/muting in case of sock and spam accounts. The moment he returned, our friend Eharding started basically spamming again, so I think my action (yes, I take full responsibility) was justified. A few days ago another poster, I won - get over it, was put on mod review by one moderator, so it's not like there are no precedents.

Well, yes, I understand that you have that capability, but my advice would be that for a case like this, where you have a poster who's been posting on the forum for some time (and not some kind of drive-by spammer who immediately after registering starts posting 100 Viagra ads or something) you just put the guy on mod review rather than the full mute, unless you've already talked to the other mods and there's some kind of consensus to do more.  A single moderator unilaterally muting someone while Nym is away for a few days is something that normally shouldn't happen IMHO.

But that's just my take, as someone who was "on the inside" for several years.  I'm not a mod anymore, so it's no longer my problem.  Smiley

This won't end well for us.  Sad
I got my eye on you mister man.

You can seek an asylum on my boards, Grumps.

Trump banned me from the International Boards.  #MAGA

What are YOUR ideas on Tax Reform?

Simplify!!!!!!!!!

That a cottage industry has evolved to serve no purpose other than to help people "do their taxes" should be evidence enough that we need simplification.  I have never used a service, or software, to "do" my taxes, but I am constantly reminded that many (most?) people do.  Just the other day I was in the club working out with a colleague who asked me about my taxes and I mentioned that I didn't quite finish because I was printing PA40 form UE and my printer quit.  (Oh, it was a fine printer.  It is three years older than my son and has been faithfully printing since 2001, but it started to make a noise a few months ago so I knew it was coming.)  Anyway, he immediately said, "printed out forms?  You mean, you do it on forms with a pencil?  old school, man.  I use TurboTax."

?!  This particular individual has a PhD in political science and he has to use software to "do" his taxes?!

I've been chastized and hounded by the feds.  Sometimes it's good.  Once they wrote, "We owe you one thousand dollars.  Please call this number if you dispute this."  Who would dispute that?  Of course I didn't call the number.  I awaited my one-thousand dollar check and was glad to receive it.  More often it's like this, "We have determined that you owe us six thousand, seven hundred, thirty-three dollars and forty-seven cents.  If you pay in the next two weeks there will be no additional interest or penalties..."  Or something like that.  Once they pissed me off so bad that I called them and had to go through about 20 minutes of menus, only to get "Our call volume is unusually busy at the moment.  Please call back at another time."  WTF??!  I wrote them a harshly-worded letter and disputed the amount that they claimed, as well as the interest rate they charged, and offered them about a third of what they wanted (I was being generous).  About a month later I got a letter that stated that my amount would be acceptable.

Mostly I don't make mistakes, but I have to set aside at least an entire weekend to do it.  It's insane.

DECIDE HOW MUCH YOU NEED AND TAKE IT!  JUST FUCKING TAKE IT.  DON'T MAKE IT SO COMPLICATED.

That's all I'd suggest.

AMEN!

I doubt it is the "scandals" so much as the hysterical outrage over them that makes Trump more liked.

Correct.  Look at the news feeds on NBC News, USA Today and CNN (since I have those apps on my phone).  Just the headlines will cause his supporters to dig their heels in deeper.
24  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Trump Scandals Make His Voters Like Him More on: March 25, 2017, 09:24:30 am
Because Trump supporters don't view these "scandals" as "scandals", you see.
