Well, I actually beat my expected goal. What I expected to lose in 6 months, I lost in 5. As my college Dean once said, "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son". My hard work has paid off, and I'm excited to work at my next goal. I'm happy to have lost all this weight, and can't wait to see all the new opportunities that life has to show me.

3  Forum Community / Forum Community / Re: Cold turkey on: Today at 08:41:56 am
This is my third attempt to quit smoking. I very much plan on it being my final attempt. So far I've gone 21 hours.

For those of you who don't know, peak withdrawal symptoms typically appear during the third day. Nicotine takes up to 72 hours to completely be eliminated from your system.

Thusfar, I'm not terribly impressed. Sure, I've been agitated and I've wanted a cigarette, but I'm keeping myself in check. The hardest part so far has been keeping myself occupied.

Anyone have any experience with this personally or through family or friends? Advice on stuff to do until peak withdrawal has passed is appreciated. Even ridiculous things. I will do them. Maybe.

Just keep on going at it bud. Don't go for any of those electronic smokes or anything. I quit cold turkey over 3 years ago. Haven't had a single drag since, and it feels great. I chewed gum to get rid of the cravings.. or the stupidest one is to put a pretzel rod in your mouth. I would pretend to smoke one for about a minute, and I would lose my cravin.
4  Forum Community / Forum Community / Re: Do you ever fix yourself non-meat dinners? on: April 16, 2014, 06:40:47 am
Well.... its Lent, so yeah. Most of my dinners are non-meat. But for the most part, that's what most of my dinners were anyways. I tend to have healthy fixes, including my veggie lasagna.

I believe God has a specific job out there for me.  I just haven't found it, yet.  God knows which job I will fit the best in and knows what job is best for my life.  He knows what's best for me even better than I do.  He knows me better than I know myself.  As long as I do my part in applying and interviewing, the results are up to Him ultimately.  He will sustain me during this period, too.

And this is why you're going to fail over and over again. You've got no motivation to actually stretch yourself, 'cause you think God is going to fix it.

Ever thought that maybe, just maybe, God is trying to teach you self-reliance?

Jeffy, I think you should start telling the people giving the interviews this. Maybe it would help you get the job.. or grossly offend the people who actually worked hard to get where they are.

What I don't get is why he won't get a job at McDonald's or whatever until a better opportunity comes along? There's no shame in that. He'd actually be able to pay his Papa Bushie some kind of rent at least.

It's either that or figure out a way to get on the government's dole.

If he were to do that, he couldn't spend time looking for other jobs that he isn't going to get. Duh!

A good friend is not doing well and I feel like I've been the cause of his life-threatening problems. I'm not safe and I want to do myself harm.

Please, try talk to someone whom you trust and whom you know cares about you as soon as possible. Don't do anything you might regret. You should have people around you to ask for help, and they certainly can do more than anonymous people on an internet message board.

Sage advice, Dr Phil, but riddle me this:  Who joins a political forum and 6 posts in starts a thread like this?  Expect Inks to update the recent ban thread later.
Do you really need to be a douche 100% of the time? Can you just take a break from doing that for like 5 minutes?

So you agree this is a troll thread?
I'm not sure, but just because someone hasn't been on here long doesn't mean they are immediately a sock, I'm just saying, you could do this in more civil terms.

Ok fair enough. Tbh I'd be shocked if the cave didn't have a policy on threads like this to trace back the ip and notify local authorities unless the Cave is sure it's from a sock or the ip trace doesn't work.

It certainly does raise red flags when you're this new and you get one of these threads. Just sayin
10  Forum Community / Forum Community / Re: Have you ever boycotted any company, product, or service on: April 13, 2014, 09:36:28 am
Nope. The only thing I've ever done close to that is just not going to a certain location because of non-stop crappy service.  Boycotting doesn't help anymore.. all it does is get the other side all riled up, and profits soar.

Wow..Jeffy really put his angry pants on. I guess I would too if I had to convince everyone on this forum of all the hard work I put into school, and that I was doing just fine on my own too. Especially when I live in a family rent house, and every single one of my bills were being paid for by my parents.. and I left a job in Utah because some hobos were getting it on in my shed, and had to move back so that I could drive past it once a week.. and not get a job for over a year..than go to a school and not graduate... I know I'm forgetting something in there.

Has no one heard of the Internet there in Oklahoma? First your father feels the need to travel to Albuquerque simply to be redirected to the store's online shop. Now you are travelling to Tulsa to check out extended stay hotels and to see whether or not there is a Walmart near by... You know there's something called Google Maps and hotel reviews, right? I mean, my God!

Imagine if we all lived our lives like Bushie, scouting for strip malls and the like, going on overnight trips to buy things one could online, trying out various extended stay hotels. What a desolate wasteland, where one must walk out into a rusty Saw-esque shed to get some water for the bath. Thank God I live in a city where such things seem insane. Are middle Americans all like this?

No. We're not.

You know, Jeff -- you don't have to move to a place early to figure out where the Wal-Mart is. I'm sorry, but knowing your personality and demeanor, I imagine that each one of those things that you listed needing to locate -- a post office, Wal-Mart, church, a bank -- would be spun into day-long excursions for you.

Good Tuesday afternoon! I woke up promptly at 0615 this morning to begin planning for my trip to find the Wal-Mart. I planned to leave the house at 0800 but was briefly delayed by remembering that I forgot to feed my dog before I left Midwest City six days ago. RIP JJ.

By 1035 I had located the Wal-Mart after driving the streets of Tulsa one-by-one. I may have passed a post office and a bank while searching, but those places are expeditions for another day. I will need to locate them again. Although I had found the Wal-Mart, I first needed to discover a route back to my extended stay hotel, then again drive myself back to the Wal-Mart to ensure I had the most efficient route and remembered my way.

By 1315, I was parked at Wal-Mart and ready to check out the inside. Sometimes the grocery is on the right side of the store, and sometimes it is on the left. Knowing the difference is important to avoid an onset of vertigo upon entering the store. After some brief relaxation in the Wal-Mart restroom, I was well-acquainted enough with the store to head back to my extended stay for the evening, again traversing what I deemed to be the most-efficient route.

Most of that is in jest, Jeff ... but the Internet does wonderful things as far as showing you where stores and services are located and what churches may be available.

Use the time "your God" has given you to its fullest, man.

And the irony of writing on this message board finally hits me.

Dude.. I've never loved you more than I do right now.

I cannot believe you had the F'ing gall to open this BS page up again when all you had to report was that you sat on your behind for two weeks....Kid, you are wasting precious days of your life which you will regret deeply later on because days become weeks, weeks become months, months become years.....

Waking up to watch television and then tell us about it- that is hardly an example of a CARPE DIEM philosophy.

clarence, I have done much more than sit on my rear for 2 weeks.  I have been traveling back and forth to Tulsa,  a 2 hour drive,  interviewing and talking to prospective employers.  I have put nearly 1,000 miles on my car just job searching.  You cannot accuse me of sitting on my rear.   When I'm not out interviewing,  I am putting in applications.  Plain and simple.

But you're not out walking, or doing anything else productive? You're not putting in applications 8 hours a day. I got myself a 3 week break last month, but this month I've put well over 1000 miles on my car just for work. Houston to Corpus, back to Houston, up to Dallas back to Houston, to Corpus, and now back to Houston. I have today and half day tomorrow before I have to drive back to Corpus. In about an hour, I'm going to take a shower, and get out and do something to better myself. I'm going to go to the park, run.. hopefully get out with friends and do whatever it takes to not just sit around and live idle. My health got bad, and I mean real bad.. I've done something about it, and in the past 4 months I've lost almost 50lbs, and vastly improved my quality of life. You're not putting in applications today, so get outside and do something.

God will take care of all my needs with whatever paycheck He gives me (Phil 4:19).
Really?  Because God hasn't been taking care of your needs for the past year.  Your parents have.

And do you have any plans to follow up about your grades or certificate, which are now a full week late?  Or do you just think that since you're getting interviews that stuff isn't important anymore?

This is the only comment worth responding to.  Do you doubt the abilities or the personal, intimate nature of my God?  What makes you think God has not been taking care of my needs through my parents?  God never leaves His children destitute without hope.  While I was going to school, God was providing my parents the income necessary to support me.  Now, that I'm avidly looking for a job, He will make my search fruitful and give me the health necessary to work a job and provide for myself.  Remember, God is in absolute control of every thing on earth.  No one can dispute or deny that.

I damn well can.

Me too, he sure is hell is not in control of my life... never has, and never will be.

You frequently call Him "my God"……which seems a bit odd, as if you're suggesting that He's only the God for some….or that there are other gods out there.

I call Him "my God" because He is intimate to me and even knows the very number of hairs on my head.  Everybody who is a believer can call him their God as well.  He is "my God", but He is not exclusively my God.  It's like my brother and I can both call our parents "my parents".  They are my parents and they are his parents.

I can ballpark that one.  Am I divine?

They are my parents too
