3  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Why did Hillary picked Tim Kaine instead of Mark Warner? on: August 28, 2016, 07:26:38 pm
Sadly, Warner missed his window. The positions he had to take to win in Virginia in 2001 don't have national Democratic appeal anymore.

Kaine, by contrast, was able to capitalize on coming in after Warner, and never had to move farther right than he already was--so he could take liberal positions when he wanted to. That, along with soft factors like age, the fact that he speaks Spanish, etc. put him ahead of Warner.
4  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: More likely to flip? on: August 28, 2016, 09:30:12 am
Yeah, probably Georgia, although the circumstances necessary to flip it aren't far from what's needed to flip AZ too
5  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Inside Debate Prep: Clinton’s Careful Case vs. Trump’s ‘WrestleMania’ on: August 28, 2016, 09:28:35 am
Is this surprising? Hillary is taking this seriously, because she understands the stakes. Trump, meanwhile, thinks this is all a game and is treating it as such.

7  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: VA-2017: Who wins? on: August 27, 2016, 09:04:55 pm
I think Northam, but it'll be very close.
8  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: VA 2017: Republicans switching to primaries on: August 27, 2016, 09:04:21 pm
Bolling must be super disappointed.

Not sure if this will actually change the 2017 race, but if it stays that way for future elections it'll definitely benefit the VAGOP.
9  Forum Community / Off-topic Board / Re: Your favorite state in the Southeast - Runoff on: August 27, 2016, 10:41:51 am
Virginia
10  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: HRC & Byrd on: August 26, 2016, 07:41:11 pm
Did his views change?  Yeah, so did Strom Thurmond's.  Strangely, only one is thought of even remotely fondly on this forum.

Strom's views didn't change. His party did.
11  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Presidential Ratings and Predictions - Mississippi on: August 26, 2016, 07:38:55 pm
Likely R, Trump 56-41
12  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Should Hillary renominate Garland on: August 24, 2016, 07:56:34 pm
Somewhat depends on the Senate composition, but I do think Garland should be on the Court.
13  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Is Minnesota a Swing State? on: August 24, 2016, 07:50:39 pm
Nope. Not at all.

15  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential General Election Polls / Re: Utah-PPP: Trump +15 on: August 23, 2016, 07:36:12 pm
They wouldn't have opened a campaign office for no reason. I bet they're internals show it's closer than this.

Maybe the office is to drive turnout, and try to take down Mia Love?
16  Forum Community / Off-topic Board / Re: Your favorite state in the Southeast on: August 22, 2016, 08:40:36 pm
LouisianaVirginia. Best state in the best region in the best nation.

All this talk is making me hungry to download the latest version of "Presidents Forever" which I haven't played since the '08 elections. Wink

Yeah, that was my thought process a couple months ago Tongue

FDR, for sure
21  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Will Donald Trump still claim the election was rigged if he wins? on: August 22, 2016, 06:19:50 pm
He will probably say something like "With your support, we've overcome an election that was rigged against us..." in his victory speech.

Seems the most likely.
22  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: If Clinton wins and the Dems regain the House and the Senate... on: August 21, 2016, 03:32:44 pm
Why the finks would you prefer to add DC to Virginia?  Wouldn't Maryland be the more natural choice?

I was talking purely about what would be most politically beneficial to the Democratic Party.
23  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: If Clinton wins and the Dems regain the House and the Senate... on: August 21, 2016, 03:07:04 pm
Re: DC, it might be easier to move that territory into Virginia. Adds another congressional seat, and goes a long way to locking down Virginia's state government, too.

(It's also been done before, with Alexandria being folded back into Virginia in the 1840s.)
