An excellent example of 'quite literally both', don't you think?

Yes, this.
2  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: How the SCOTUS battle could escalate in 2017 on: March 30, 2016, 10:36:34 pm
Read this earlier today. I just don't see how it's feasible, given 200+ years of tradition.

Voted for the Dark Knight, but would recommend Mask of the Phantasm.
4  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: SCOTUS nominee expected as early as this morning EDIT: looks like it's Garland on: March 17, 2016, 10:25:25 am
You guys blocked Ike from a SCOTUS pick in 1960 because it was an election year. We are only doing the same.

That's just blatantly untrue. There was no vacancy between 1958 and 1962.
5  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: SCOTUS nominee expected as early as this morning EDIT: looks like it's Garland on: March 16, 2016, 05:41:12 pm
Don't you think we should be replacing the conservative leader with someone just as conservative?

No, of course not. No liberal President is going to replace a conservative justice a conservative, nor vice-versa. I guarantee you a GOP President wouldn't replace RBG with another liberal. That's not the way this works.
6  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Will Garland get a Hearing and Vote? on: March 16, 2016, 02:49:42 pm
Lolololol no
7  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: SCOTUS nominee expected as early as this morning EDIT: looks like it's Garland on: March 16, 2016, 01:27:09 pm
It's our turn and about time we had a Conservative Protestant voice on th court.

Oh boy, that's a dangerous way of thinking. Setting aside that for much of American history the court was dominated by conservative Protestants, religious identity is hardly a good benchmark for a SCOTUS justice.

Garland was arguably the most qualified person who could possibly have been nominated.
8  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Supreme Court Short List Down to 5 on: March 10, 2016, 09:09:26 pm
Garland would be a fine choice--incredibly inoffensive in every way, yet good enough for any reasonable liberal.
9  General Politics / Individual Politics / Re: Opinion of northern Virginia? on: March 10, 2016, 12:15:02 am
I'm a fan
10  Forum Community / Off-topic Board / Re: Calibri, 11-point font, 1.5 spacing, and the death of America on: March 05, 2016, 10:15:33 pm
I also single space until the paper is finished.
11  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Sri Srinivasan and Two Other Judges Being Vetted for Scalia's Seat on: March 05, 2016, 08:07:01 pm
The only way Srinivasson works is if that's the one the Republicans are gonna use for their auto-rejection of the first nominee.  He's not a reliable enough vote to be more than a sacrificial lamb IMO.

Couldn't disagree more. Sri would make a perfectly good liberal justice; I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary.

12 point Garamond is my go-to font.
13  General Politics / Individual Politics / Re: Opinion of Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III? on: February 29, 2016, 10:47:37 am
Great name, if nothing else

One of my favorites
15  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Scenario: You are Trump's campaign manager in the general on: February 17, 2016, 06:55:32 pm
Play up his populist streak; try and find a VP who can mollify the establishment (not really sure who that is, though...)
16  Forum Community / Off-topic Board / Re: best Shakespearean tragedy? on: February 17, 2016, 06:54:19 pm
Gonna go with Hamlet, although I do love Macbeth
17  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Inevitable question: Who does Obama nominate to replace Scalia? on: February 17, 2016, 06:52:44 pm
I think Sri is probably the best choice, both politically and from a more generic "dream candidate" scenario.
18  General Discussion / Constitution and Law / Re: Most consequential Supreme Court justices on: February 11, 2016, 12:04:02 pm
Interesting, but obviously flawed, given that Rehnquist spent much of his career dissenting from major opinions, while Justices like Brennan, O'Connor, and Warren were crucial to many major decisions. If nothing else, though, it does reward longevity.
19  Forum Community / Off-topic Board / Re: Who wins Super Bowl 50 on: February 06, 2016, 10:18:27 am
Denver, 24-20.

Go Skins!
21  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: Which Will Democrats Retake First? on: January 20, 2016, 05:44:19 pm
Yeah, I'd trust the VADP long before the FLDP to actually get this done.
22  General Discussion / History / Re: Presidential Trivia II on: January 20, 2016, 05:40:12 pm
Hey! Nice to see my thread resurrected (8 years after I started the first one).
23  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: 2016 Primary Endorsements megathread. on: January 20, 2016, 05:39:09 pm
It's almost like Clinton was doing something from 2009-2013 that precluded her from making controversial statements regarding domestic policy........

Problem is, she was also against same-sex marriage during her 2008 campaign, as was Barack Obama.

Which doesn't really phase me. It's nice that Bernie came out for SSM before Hillary, but it's a lot easier to do that being from Vermont, with no real national ambitions, than to do so from the position(s) Hillary has been in.
24  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Will Cruz implode... on: January 20, 2016, 05:37:49 pm
I don't think he'll implode, mostly because (1) his core supporters are committed enough that they'll stick around no matter, and (2) I don't see him ever getting so dominant in the polls that a drop would even qualify as an implosion.
25  Forum Community / Off-topic Board / Re: Actor Alan Rickman has died on: January 14, 2016, 10:39:42 am
Just devastating.
