76  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: If Hillary Loses The Nomination Will She Do So With Grace And Class? on: March 22, 2008, 12:21:59 pm
In all seriousness, yes. If she realizes she has no chance, she'll give some sort of speech encouraging the party to stand behind Obama. Sabotaging the Dems' chance to win would be foolish right now, and she knows it.
77  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: your top 3 choices for hillary's running mate? on: March 22, 2008, 12:18:24 pm
Jeffords was a Democratic-voting independent, I believe.

As to who Hillary will pick, it probably won't be someone who is regarded as a strong Obama supporter since they might not want the job. So my best guesses would be Mike Easley or maybe Ted Strickland. But she might be more likely to pick someone who's a Western governor like Bill Ritter. Problem is, he's a bit inexperienced. I think he was attorney general before becoming governor. I'd almost say Bill Richardson except for that recent endorsement and the fact that Hillary already enjoys support among Hispanics
78  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: 20% of PA Dems to vote for McCain? on: March 21, 2008, 02:08:20 pm
Yeah, I would probably find Clinton to be odious even if I were Democrat. But I'm not sure about the future of independent politicians at the moment. I guess Bloomberg realized it wasn't his time.
79  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: who will win the 2010 NY Gubernatorial election? on: March 21, 2008, 02:05:15 pm
Paterson. He could always choose not to run, but New York is an important prestige state. It's not like Idaho where the Republicans' likely candidate choose to run again for Lt. Gov, after becoming governor in the wake of Dirk Kempthorne's appoinment as Sec. of the Interior.
80  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: How About Rick Lazio For New York Governor? on: March 21, 2008, 02:02:04 pm
He wouldn't have a chance.
81  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: TR wins in 1912 on: March 21, 2008, 01:53:20 pm
Woohoo! Since Lodge doesn't have to battle that stubborn Woody Wilson, the treaty has passed. I wonder how FDR will do in his tenure as Govenor of Hungary.
82  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Alternative Elections / Re: Sanford/Pawlenty vs. Warner/Bayh vs. Bloomberg/Hagel -2012 on: March 21, 2008, 01:49:44 pm
Without knowing any details of how the Republicnas have governed the country, I'll just assume incumbency here will carry Sanford through.

83  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Poll: Should Barack Start Wearing An American Flag Lapel Pin? on: March 21, 2008, 01:35:46 pm
I doubt wearing some little pin which  the cameras may zoom in on occasion would really help Obama.
84  Election Archive / 2008 U.S. Presidential Election Campaign / Re: Will it ever be "Clinton" rather than "Hillary"? on: March 21, 2008, 01:33:44 pm
Well maybe, if she gets elected president.
85  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Richardson Endorses Obama on: March 21, 2008, 01:25:04 pm
I doubt this will make a whole lot of difference. A minor player in the presidential race who dropped out early is not going to make a whole lot of difference to Obama's campaign. It'll be nothing more than a minor, temporary media distraction.
86  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Obama and Clinton's "peaks and valleys" on: March 21, 2008, 01:15:34 pm
Clinton
Best-Winning the New Hampshire primary. It kind of quieted the doubters
Worst-When she was crushed in South Carolina

Obama
Best-winning Missouri, which probably helped to drive the point home that he might be electable
Worst-this entire  week. 'nuff said.
87  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Is typing "Hillary!" annoying? on: March 21, 2008, 01:09:53 pm
Not particularly.
88  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Obama's latest comments on his grandmother. "Typical White person". on: March 21, 2008, 01:07:45 pm
When Obama said his white grandmother would be afraid of a group of young black men walking down the street in her direction, I could agree that this is a typical thing for whites.

After walking some of the streets in India and Indonesia, there's nothing to fear about the streets in the US.  Tongue

Here in Thailand I often walk past groups of young men and never have any problems or fear.  Basically here there is virtually no crime - it is really quite amazing.

Really? Becauuse I remember reading this book that was published in the early to mid 90s that mentioned how people had been known to rob tourists by slipping a little something into their drink. The only thing I know that happened in Thailand recently was that coup.
89  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: What if the 2008 Democratic Primaries followed the 2004 schedule? on: March 20, 2008, 10:14:03 pm
I agree with Lief here. Things look much better for Clinton.
90  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Obama's passport file accessed on: March 20, 2008, 10:04:26 pm
Dude, why did you have to go and start a seperate thread on this?
91  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Hillary! has Obama passport file searched. (Hillary!'s watergate.) on: March 20, 2008, 10:03:22 pm
Unlike the photos with Obama in typical Kenya clothing, this is a more direct tie to Hilalry's campaign.
92  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Obama's Legitimacy on: March 20, 2008, 09:57:22 pm
Typical Hillary-esque move. I rememeber her doins something similar in the New Hampshire debates. But the only way Florida will have a mail-in primary will be if the national democratic party funds it, and there's  still problems with Florida itself. But like many people , I distrust her motives for making this call.
93  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Presidential Election Trends / Re: Will there ever be another president with non-consecutive terms? on: March 20, 2008, 09:51:59 pm
Too damn hard to answer. The problem is, there is this common perception that of a president quits, he should stay retired. The only reason Grover Cleveland won in 1892 was probably because his loss had been so close last time. So we would likely have to have another close loss where the losing candidate isn't entirely hated.
94  Election Archive / 2008 U.S. Presidential Primary Election Polls / Re: PA-Public Policy Polling: Clinton eliminates Obama 2-1 on: March 20, 2008, 09:46:07 pm
Wasn't PA supposed to be a horrible state for Ed Rendell when he ran against Bob Casey Jnr in the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial primary?

Your self-awareness is appreciated. I'd do a smiley, but I don't know how they can be accessed on this forum. I'll ask someone later.

It helps when you can run up big numbers in your base against a dull, overall bad candidate.

Maybe my memory is bad, but I didn't think when push came to shove, Rendell had to worry about the primary.

He really didn't have to worry. He trailed by large margins at first but by the end, he was favored. He had the charisma, he had an energized base and had an opponent who just threw everything away by running a nasty campaign.

No doubt, that not unlike Hillary Clinton in her quest for the Democratic presidential nomination, Bob Casey Jnr felt as thought he had a right, an entitlement to the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial candidate

I'm not sure who'd I have supported there because I suspect I'm closer to Casey than I am Rendell

That said, I'm perhaps closer to Clinton than I am Obama. It was, however, quite an easy decision withdrawing my endorsement of Clinton three days before the South Carolina Democratic primary, essentially because I didn't like the racially-polarised way things were heading. And Bill set the tone there Sad. I didn't endorse Obama straight afterwards either

Of course, there was never exactly a Dave Hawk style-Democrat in the primary. Far from it! Must be a dying breed Tongue

Dave

Yeah, shouldn't passport access be limited to authorized people only?
96  Election Archive / 2008 U.S. Presidential General Election Polls / Re: MA: Survey USA: Clinton Leads MA by 13%; Obama & McCain Tied on: March 20, 2008, 09:37:12 pm
Damn. I remember reading here how the Democrat electorate of Massachusetts is largely composed of working-class whites, but still....
97  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: If the election was held today? on: March 20, 2008, 09:35:19 pm
Here's my contribution. I figure there'd be those states that might be feeling a little disgusted with Hillary. But I was a little nice here. My obama map would look too similar to the ones posted previously on this thread.
98  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Obama's passport file accessed on: March 20, 2008, 09:25:48 pm
I don't think of it as any kind of surprise. Some people are just too curious for their own good.
99  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Who do you currently think will be the next President? on: March 20, 2008, 09:14:34 pm
I'm not making any predictions right now. Everybody is saying McCain, but this in the wake of the whole Wright thing. Then people mention how he doesn't have much support among working-class whites. While that may be true, you've got to think who most of these Democratic voters would vote for. Would they rather have the guy who'll do more, or the guy who promises a lot? I rather doubt many of these people are happy with McCain. Unless he promises to do more about the economy than Obama, I'm not really sure if he has a bigger chance of being president.
100  Election Archive / 2008 Elections / Re: Obama's latest comments on his grandmother. "Typical White person". on: March 20, 2008, 09:06:19 pm
Obama should really have thought about what he was saying. Does anybody really fear a black person when they are not in a black neighborhood, where you could be robbed among other things?
