PURPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh oh, I just got Yanks hopes up. The inevitable crash will be fierce and unrelenting.

You should know me better then that. Tongue I have you surrounded by armed guards, there is no escape from here.

And all this time I thought that was just the Secret Service that all retired Atlasian presidents get for our future protection.

I have but three letters to say:

LOL

Seriously though, even if it is frivolous as all hell, Tweed's suit is simply a stroke of genius.

I will reappear (very briefly) from my extended walk into the sunset to echo this. Leave it to the true creator of the very idea of Atlasia to provide such a brilliant effort to return excitement to the game.

I would support the lawsuit if it leads to a reset of Atlasia(constitutional convention), not just an amendment.

As the chair of the two previous Constitutional Conventions and author of the current Constitution, I can tell you that the idea of a "true reset" is nonsense that is peddled every few months. The game thrives on its history--one that includes many of the greatest posters this forum has ever seen. That is why the Boss's suit is so sound. You don't really want a reset... you want a shakeup. That's what this is and I support it.

I can't say that I am surprised, or better yet, I can actually sympathsize considering how close I have come to doing the same thing. You both made lasting impressions on this game, even if you feel you are leaving with sense of having failed at changing what is basically unchangable. You have much to be proud of during these past two years. It has been  a pleasure working with you, fighting with you, and serving with you. Even if the game wasn't fun itself, it was definately fun having to deal with you characters on a regular basis and this place will be different without you.

Good luck to the both of you in what you next turn your endeavours towards!

The feelings are mutual Yank. I certainly would have given up on this game much sooner had it not been for the entertainment value involved in jousting with you. Not to mention all the times we got to work together. Tongue

As my last act of villainy towards you Yank...

Suck it, all your presidential polls are obsolete. Tongue
7  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Our Eyes Have Seen the Glory of the Coming of the Horde on: February 08, 2011, 12:12:48 am
let me begin by saying that this speech is both my withdrawal from the vice presidential nomination, as well as my retirement from the game and the Atlas forum.

I take it we can assume you won't be voting in the upcoming presidential election, then?

Personally, that is correct.

Right, I should have mentioned that I'll probably answer a few questions before truly disappearing. But yeah, I'll be long gone by the time the elections roll around.
8  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Candidate Declaration Thread on: February 07, 2011, 11:54:00 pm
I am withdrawing my name from consideration for Vice President of Atlasia.

So much for ending on a low note. I'll stick with my last office being president. Tongue
9  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Our Eyes Have Seen the Glory of the Coming of the Horde on: February 07, 2011, 11:50:40 pm
Atlasians near and far,

It is with great joy and uplift in my heart that I announce the end of the Marokai/Purple State bid for higher office.

Marokai will speak shortly, but let me begin by saying that this speech is both my withdrawal from the vice presidential nomination, as well as my retirement from the game and the Atlas forum.

This game has been a learning experience for me that will be difficult to forget. From the early days of nose-to-the-grindstone determination, to the adolescent period of overbearing vitriol, to the eventual return to the grindstone, it is hard to say that I have not seen or experienced most of what Atlasia has to offer. And it is with that experience that I can now fully appreciate the sentiments of the veterans of the game who find it difficult to rejoin a game that truly never changes.

I have always been of the mind that you should have your best fun playing this game, but make sure to give it up when you find it no longer gives you pleasure. While it's been an enjoyable time for me, the cycles of anger, drama, frustration and hurt that we are all forced to witness become tiring and burdensome, and so it is time for me to go.

It is worth stressing that I harbor no personal ill will towards anyone I have come across in this game. Should the occasion ever somehow arise that we encounter one another in the real world, I should hope that nothing said over the years here, as a character in a game, should ever be thought of as truly personal or meaningful.

I urge you all to avoid personal attachments to each other (though I know I will be ignored), and I also hope that Ben will rejoin the race as the UDL candidate.

And with that I bid you all adieu.

~PS

What is your reaction to the Breaking News?

Someone should slap some super glue on it before it gets broken completely.
11  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Question Time with Marokai and PS on: February 07, 2011, 07:57:51 am
You should probably all calm down a little bit before I have to start infracting you.

On a more personal note, you should all really get over yourself. I mean, come on.

For serious. It amazes me that people can destroy (or create for that matter) such personal friendships over an internet forum. Such is the nature of our times I guess? Still, it's pretty ridiculous how much vitriol can go into these things nowadays.
12  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Marokai Blue/Purple State for Atlasia, Campaign HQ on: February 07, 2011, 12:22:26 am
Questions? Why, Yes...

Alright, so things are getting boring in this race. To mix things up a bit, Marokai and I are going to give you all a taste of something we started under our administration and plan to refine if we are elected: Question Time (QT).

So here is the plan: In one week's time (let's call it for Sunday, January 30 at noon EST) we will open a QT thread for questions from the public. From there we will answer every question, regardless of its nature, as honestly (or wittily, depends on my mood) as possible. This will last for at least 24 hours, or longer if the questions keep flowing. If you are unavailable that day and want to get your questions answered, feel free to send me a PM with any questions you have and we will intersperse those in the slower moments of QT. Follow ups will be encouraged.

Let the fun begin. Smiley

What a smashing success that was. Tongue

Eh, I try. When the left-wing of the game is determined to tear itself asunder for an election cycle, there is not much that anyone can do to stop that.

At the very least we should all take a step back and enjoy the significance of this turn of events. Just think about the history: We have left-wing administration after left-wing administration in Atlasia, even with an emergent right-wing. Eventually the right-wing implodes under its own weight, yet we end up with two centrist, non-ideological administrations, giving the right-wing time to rebuild. Now, the centrists are out, the right wing is back at full strength, and the left-wing is in the process of destroying itself. Just really interesting stuff.
13  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Question Time with Marokai and PS on: February 07, 2011, 12:13:44 am
Cycles in this game are so interesting. Was it one year ago where the right was tearing itself to shreds in a similar way? And now it's the left's turn. Spend two years in this game and you've truly seen it all.

I assume this will all be papered over in a few months.

One thing for Bgwah to mull over: you need to choose whether this is a game to you or whether it's personal. If it truly is a game where fun is paramount, then Marokai's actions should not ruin friendships and my decision not to join the JCP is just another turn of events. You relish the chance to personally attack people far more than one should if it is truly just a game.
14  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Oakvale/Snowguy for Atlasia: Campaign HQ on: February 05, 2011, 09:39:51 pm
I appreciate you putting that together Oakvale. Smiley

I actually am very much in favor of your third point. One thing that we have fixed recently is the decrepit nature of the Statute page, but the Wiki is much more than just that page and making sure a prominent official is charged with maintaining is a good idea.
15  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Oakvale/Snowguy for Atlasia: Campaign HQ on: February 03, 2011, 11:42:37 pm
I've been kinda spotty checking the forum this past week so I'm not entirely sure if I'm an idiot and missed it, but do you have a platform I can check out?

Snowguy owes me some more intelligent debating. Smiley
16  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Question Time with Marokai and PS on: February 03, 2011, 11:40:15 pm
Wormyguy's comments in this thread are basically on the same level of what I've had to put up with the entire campaign so far, so I really see no reason why I should let it bother me.

Oh, brother...

I'm sorry, but we need you to phrase that in the form of a question.

A question? Okay, for the running mate:

When you were running for President, you really wanted me to endorse you, and promised me that you would join the JCP if the DA collapsed. The DA collapsed soon after, but you instead created your own party (The Game Reformer's Alliance, or something along those lines IIRC).

So my questions are:
1) Why do you think it is okay to lie to someone's face like that just to win a game?
2) Why should anyone believe anything you say?

Thanks in advance Smiley

I can answer that one easily: Around the time of the elections I actually cared about party affiliation. I no longer really do. If it means enough to you I'll join the JCP right now. But I think it should be clear to anyone in Atlasia that my "partisan activities," if that is what my party-related actions can be called, have never had anything to do with anything else I do in this game.

So can they trust me to stay in a single party? Well I already left the UDL over the course of this campaign, so who knows. But they can certainly trust that I'll fight to reform this game the same way I have since I got here.

And you are so very very velcome! Wink

Must have been one of those pass through jobs, though I won't complain about my name being attached as sponsor. Wink. Still, I certainly didn't remember that and "clarified" the matter with tmth when he asked me, by saying that if the GM didn't simulate it in Atlasia, it didn't occur. Oops! Tongue

Well had there been a President's slot it would have had my name attached. Tongue

It was one of those resolutions that didn't get the attention it needs to be successful. So now we all know!

So are we considering troop withdraws from both in light of the crises in Egypt. Possibly moving 25% to Our bases in Saudi Arabia and a 25% drawdown in both Iraq and Afganistan?
JCL,
Our Game Moderator posts all national and foreign updates here. Since there has not been a post yet on the Egyptian crisis, in this world, it hasn't happened...yet. So I guess the answer to your question is no.

Not so. This law says the events in Egypt are currently of great relevance to Atlasia.

I think ideas about giving the VP position more legislative responsibilities is worth discussing. There have been some in the past that have proposed giving the Vice President the full powers of a Senator. I, honestly, wouldn't be opposed to such an idea if it was ever on the table.

That actually is quite a good idea. I must say that you're at the very least running a campaign that's strong on ideas and policy, even if I'm not entirely a part of your team.

Can I also inform as to your (op)position on the idea to whipe out all of Atlasia's economical history? Would you mind explaining to me why you disagree with the idea that this would help to assure that Senate legislation actually does matter?

I can take this one since Maro got to the VP-related question. Wink

In the last iteration of a PS/Marokai administration, we did present the possibility of a "legislative reset" as part of the new Constitution, which essentially would have given the game an opportunity for a do-over. However, the people and the Constitutional Convention generally opposed the idea and we let it die.

Now, while we are usually not ones to let something just go away, this is something we both agreed needs to be truly desired by Atlasians. Wiping the slate clean needs to be an organic, bottom-up effort, otherwise you lose the whole game. Some people have spent quite a long time building up certain parts of the game and the institutional memory is not necessarily a bad thing.

At the end of the day, the current economic conditions do add an element to the game, as it has given us quite a number of problems to fix. A reboot could make the game more boring.

As a final thought, I should note that when I was GM I did make it an implicit goal to present issues and "mark" legislation in ways that would identify problems and then allow Atlasians to solve them. Any GMs ability to number crunch in a fantasy world with limited data should be readily apparent. But if you're going to create a problem, you need to allow for the nation to solve the problem as well. That is why we no longer have a crushing national debt or an unhappy relationship with Venezuela.
21  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Question Time with Marokai and PS on: January 31, 2011, 01:00:33 am
This is running a bit late due to a hectic weekend, but let's get this started!

Post any and all questions you have for Marokai and me in this thread. We will do our best to answer each one fully and honestly (and sometimes humorously) as quickly as possible.

Question time will last for at least 48 hours or until the questions stop flowing, whichever is longer.

Time for some fun. Smiley

I'm offended to be lumped in with those UDLers. Ewwwww...

That said, I'll still vote for Marokai. He's alright, I guess.
23  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Government / Re: De-Registration Act (Debating) on: January 28, 2011, 04:45:44 pm
Badger, why doesn't Section 2 assuage your concerns? Hopefully by providing those seven days between de-registration's announcement and implementation cooler heads can prevail. But I'm not sure that it's inappropriate to ask that if you do go through with de-registration then you miss the next election, which is accomplished by the 60 days.

Just my two cents since you asked:

I'd like to leave every possible door open to people rejoining Atlasia while simply keeping the RG from having to juggle too many hasty changes. Whatever works for Hans is of primary importance. Beyond that, I just feel that even with the initial 7 day cooling off period the 60 day ban on re-registering is unnecessarily long. I'll defer to Hans here, but is 2 months really necessary to avoid overloading him with work? IMHO a week or two should be sufficient to keep things manageable. Sixty days seems less necessary for smooth functioning of the RG's office and more punitive towards people that dare leave our game.

Even if that's not the intent, it certainly discourages resuming activity in Atlasia to an unnecessary degree.

That's a fair concern. It is a tough balance that I think this resolution strikes as well as it can be struck, but you are right that the nature of this game makes it difficult to create winners without creating some losers.
24  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Marokai/Purple State Platform Extravaganza! on: January 28, 2011, 04:42:10 pm
I'm in the mood for another VP debate or an interview by any/all Atlasian papers. The paucity of substantive discussions so far is boring.
25  Atlas Fantasy Elections / Atlas Fantasy Elections / Re: Marokai/Purple State Platform Extravaganza! on: January 27, 2011, 11:55:48 pm
I need to know what the respective campaigns opinions are of Jake Matthews.

Speaking for myself and not the ticket, I generally have no opinion on any of you as individuals, given this is a game over the internet where we all assume characters and try to have fun. As long as Jake isn't actively trying to ruin the fun, I couldn't care less.

It seems as though Pound The Rock is out to prove that I am a non-human life form or merely a troll, which I am neither.

I mean, Joe is usually a non-human life form and I don't think anything less of him for it. I just want people to enjoy the game. If everyone plays nice then that is good enough for me.
