I like to think that I'm dependable, but I'm not. My solutions to my problems is to just ignore them until they come up, and then I half-ass it and hope for the best. It's caused some problems with my boyfriend in the past, but I know exactly what to say to make things better. We've been together for almost 7 years and sometimes I think the reason I "fix" it like that every time instead of just addressing the problem is because I'm afraid of what it's like to not be with someone.

80  Forum Community / Forum Community / Re: Did your high school have... on: April 13, 2013, 07:45:46 am
I don't think it did. It was very (very) liberal for a catholic high school, but I don't think they were provided... mind you, they'd probably be in the nurse's office and I never really went there.

There shouldn't even be a 2016 board... ever.

84  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Delaware lawmakers propose bill that would legalize gay marriage on: April 12, 2013, 07:30:22 am
Basically. And same-sex marriage has been becoming less and less of an issue as well.

Video of Gov Merkel introducing the same-sex marriage bill.
85  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Gov Martinez vetoes bill that would help gay vets, signs straight-only version on: April 12, 2013, 07:27:38 am
Salon article

The Senate and House both passed nearly identical bills that would expedite the issuing of occupational and professional licenses to New Mexico veterans. The only difference was that the Senate version of the bill contained an amendment that would also cover same-sex domestic partners as well. Gov Martinez pocket vetoed the Senate version and signed the House version. She issued this statement:

Quote
When military families and recent veterans move to New Mexico, we have to make it easier for them to support themselves and get to work. This legislation will end the burdensome process of requiring these already-licensed nurses, teachers, counselors, and other professionals to start over from the beginning when they are transferred to our state. I’m pleased that we are now removing this red tape and making it easier for our troops, veterans, and military spouses to get to work right away.

... unless you're gay.

I'll keep the profanities to myself, but this is a very "mean spirited" woman and has exposed herself as not caring of all veterans, just some. Smiley

This whole affair has been pretty silent in the media and blogosphere, but it will happen. And when it does, it will be like "By the way, Delaware legalized same-sex marriage yesterday. Moving on..."

Nevada has begun its process to repeal its constitutional amendment as well. Would have to be ratified by the legislature once this year, and again in 2015 (so midterms will be important) before heading to the ballot in 2016. I think Nevada would be pretty fertile ground in 2016 - 3 years from now, promising demographics in the state and shifting attitudes, presidential year, and the local casinos/hotels/resorts would surely be lobbying hard for passage like they did for the domestic partnerships.

Maybe if the Clintons campaign 24/7 for the Democratic nominee, they might lose by only 2 or 3%...

89  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Obama most trusted man in Washington on: April 11, 2013, 07:21:54 am
If they'll trust Obama who won't they trust? Huh
Democratic leaders in Congress by 1%, Republican leaders in Congress by 19%. Probably Congress in general.

Please, nobody act surprised about Collins. If you do, you don't really know anything about her views.

92  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Which of these dead Presidents would support gay marriage, on: April 03, 2013, 02:19:10 pm
It's so difficult to answer this, especially for the older presidents, because it's difficult to imagine how they would even react to modern-day issues in a a modern-day society. Those that were in their prime in the 30's, 40's, and 50's probably didn't care for gays, to put it lightly. It was only very recently that acceptance towards gay people has become mainstream.
93  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Matt Salmon, GOP Congressman, Does Not Support Gay Marriage Despite Gay Son on: April 03, 2013, 08:31:59 am
Why should he change the law just because it would benefit his son? That seems a terrible way to guide policy. He should do it because it is the right thing to do for everybody.

Exactly.

Say his son was caught with child porn. Does that mean he should try and legalise it?

umm no, but child porn is different from same-sex marriage in that the latter isn't harmful to anyone.
94  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Matt Salmon, GOP Congressman, Does Not Support Gay Marriage Despite Gay Son on: April 03, 2013, 06:30:11 am
It's a story I've seen a few times in state legislatures that have debated same-sex marriage. Doesn't surprise me.

Let me know if you would like a longer essay on all of this, Holmes. Thanks. I am flattered by your interest!  Smiley

I wouldn't mind. Stories of people coming out to themselves have always interested me, and I think you would have a good story.
97  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: ...and now Mark Kirk (2nd GOP senator supports gay marriage) on: April 02, 2013, 02:37:45 pm
I never said I disliked Kirk for being a Republican or supporting same-sex marriage.
98  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: .... And now Tom Carper on: April 02, 2013, 12:53:31 pm
Even by the extremely cynical standards of the US Senate that was such an incredibly phony, insincere statement. While I applaud his flipflop, I can smell the stench of his bullsh!t all the way from Tennessee.

Have you read Casey's?
