General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Do you think Mitt Romney would make a good President?

Personally of all the likely candidates, he's the one I want for 2012. If Obama is the Dem nominee (as in, if he does decide to run again) I will vote Romney. The only person who could perhaps give me pause in voting for Romney is if Hillary ran as the Dem nominee, but I'd have to judge her political stance against Romney's at election time.
I personally think Romney would make a great President if elected, much better than Obama.
So you are a Republican after all? Good that you've come out of that closet.

...is banned on Atlas?
Why is it "trolling" to post a news article about Israelis committing acts of terror against Iran?
Because it doesn't fit with the narrative of West/Israel = Good, Muslims= Terrorists?

I hate you Aw, what a nice thing to say. For my part, I hardly even know who you are to come up with such strong emotions in response. Well, I read much, but I seldom post. Calling Obama or the Democrats fascists or calling names people I like is a good way to make me feel like that. You know, you could be a little bit more respectful of your opponents and all would go well. Respect. Not name-calling. No insults. Only debate and respect, please. I don't call people names. Where did I do this? "Fascist" is a political ideological label, not an example of name-calling. Can someone confirm I'm free to talk on that issue now? The trial is ended?
Yes, you were just invited here to act as an extra on the set. After the illusion was created that the court was actually going to assemble a real jury, your services were no longer needed. Judgie-wudgie had the final act written since before the show even began. Why didn't you ever ask for somebody to be appointed to continue the trial, as Marokai suggested? (Yes, I know this question will go unanswered by Libertas, but I figured I should at least try...) I can't do the Attorney General's job. Who the frig was I going to appoint? That was a ridiculous cheap and lazy cop-out on the AG's part. Not to mention that I'm not sure what was even left to argue. Kalwejt and I put forth the case and addressed numerous arguments. Antonio put up essentially no defense. We didn't need some special prosecutor to be appointed to do Marokai's job for him. What we needed was a jury to be assembled, but apparently the JCP was afraid that a real jury might rule against them.

The state shouldn't exist? Pure anarchy doesn't work.
Well it does, but that's not the pertinent issue here. Let's focus on why the State is addicted to committing crimes and then arresting people for exposing said crimes. What crimes were committed as evidenced by this release of documents? Well if they didn't do anything wrong, then what is there to hide? National security secrets. You realize that your logic for "if they didn't do anything wrong, what is there to hid" is the argument that some governments have used to pry into civilians lives... If you didn't cut out half his post you would have seen he was making a point. I don't even remember cutting that out... or seeing it when I responded to it. I promise you it was there in the original post; I never edited it.

You have my endorsement; I don't think you have to worry too much though considering the Assembly-seat-to-active-member ratio in the Northeast. Why thank you...Senator? Wow, it's been a while in these parts. How did that happen? Stranger things have happened Libertas, stranger things have happened. The power elites failed to account for every possible outcome, so I slipped through the cracks. You have my endorsement; I don't think you have to worry too much though considering the Assembly-seat-to-active-member ratio in the Northeast. Why thank you...Senator? Wow, it's been a while in these parts. How did that happen? Stranger things have happened Libertas, stranger things have happened. Populares practically took over the Northeast Region for a good long while and with all those numbers, it's fairly easy to elect just about anyone you want in an at-large race. Do not make this into another partisan bickering thread, Marokai. What does regional power have to do with winning two at-large Senate races anyway? If one wants to understand recent Northeastern politics, Xahar did get it right for the most part in his recent interview with Kalwejt: Kalwejt: OK, but wouldn't you agree that JCP dominance may be easily replace with other dominance? Maybe roots of the problem you see are deeper than just "evil Bgwah, evil JCP"? After all, zombie (and not just zombie) voting is not a problem limited to just one party. For example, for quite long, Northeast, once diverse region, become one-party domain and feel into a stagnation as well.
Xahar: The Northeast was that way because you and your ilk wanted it to be that way. As soon as the right won one election, you fell all over yourselves lamenting the dominance of that faction and you all left when there was no reason. On the other hand, the machine in the Pacific has been churning out zombie candidates elected by zombie voters for longer than I've been around. I understand that your attitude toward the Dear Leader is one of worshipfulness, but you must not expect everyone else to be so blind to the obvious problem.

1964: Goldwater 1980: Reagan 1984: Reagan But they're extremists!!!1! Today Goldwater would be considered an eeevil liberal RINO that must be expelled from the GOP by our tea-partying friends. Not just because of his advocacy for sane social views later in his life, but Goldwater opposed JFK's tax cuts because he feared they would dramatically increase the deficit. Nowadays there is no room in the Republican Party for anyone who opposes any sort of tax decrease. Ah, so you consider being pro-abortion to be the "sane" position, Donny. Good to know. Also LOL at the notion that you and Goldwater would agree on anything besides war. Goldwater would be considered an "eeevil liberal RINO" for holding positions the exact opposite of you and your pro-big government worldview.

Truth-telling. It's illegal in the U.S. now, isn't it?
Robert Hanssen was just telling the truth... would you defend what he did? The two cases aren't comparable. Hanssen was feeding secrets to a supposed enemy nation for money and personal again. Assange and WikiLeaks are simply releasing information that all of the world has the right to know. Of course I don't really care about the espionage games the two evil empires liked to play during the Cold War anyway. It just serves to illustrate what a joke the State is as an institution, Russian or American, capitalist or socialist. You simplified this to "truth-telling", or, telling something that is true. That's all Robert Hanssen did... he just did "truth-telling" in secret. And? I don't believe the State should have secrets (or exist, but that's another issue). Hanssen does not deserve praise for funneling secrets to the Soviets in order to procure wealth for himself. Assange, on the other hand, is commendable for revealing truth to the world.
