1  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: America's obsession with firearms on: December 18, 2012, 05:39:09 pm
Many of the values that our engrained into our culture include things like individualism. A desire for gun ownership relates to that, since it enhances your ability to take care of yourself, both in terms of being able to defend yourself (from attackers, either criminal or under a stripe of authority) and being able to feed yourself (by hunting).

But we don't live like we did 200 years ago, so we don't need to defend ourselves or hunt for food, since we have police and supermarkets. I don't get it either, is it just a rural thing?

Yes because every private home has a Policeman in it to protect you.
2  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: Do you agree with Louie Gohmert? on: December 18, 2012, 03:39:44 pm
It's impossible to predict when these things will happen and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to stop them, so you can't answer this with any certainty.
3  General Politics / Political Debate / Re: So why do these shootings happen so often in the United States? on: December 17, 2012, 04:03:30 pm
Define "often."
4  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / U.S. Presidential Election Results / Deer Lodge/Silver Bow counties, Montana on: December 12, 2012, 12:34:50 am
Why are the two so Democratic/liberal? And why so consistently so? It fascinates me.
5  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: Post random maps here on: November 29, 2012, 05:28:17 pm

Has to do with counties. Cookie to whoever gets it.
6  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Election What-ifs? / Re: 1960: No term limits on: November 21, 2012, 07:49:54 pm
He would've definitely won if he had run again, but he definitely wouldn't have run again. His health was in decline and he was 70 years old. That was old back then.
7  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: 2016 Base Map on: November 21, 2012, 01:59:40 pm
Arizona should be green. It's only voted Democrat once since 1992. And New Mexico should be orange because it's only voted Republican once since 1992.
8  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / North Carolina Lt. Governor election, 2012 on: November 16, 2012, 07:31:21 pm
Who won? If not, who WILL win? I'm getting basically nothing online from this race. I know it's close and Coleman hasn't conceded. But who will win?
9  General Politics / Political Debate / Re: Should zoosexuality be legal? on: November 13, 2012, 07:31:42 pm
Well, animals can't give consent, so it's technically rape...

Exactly what I was thinking.
10  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2012 U.S. Presidential Election Results / Re: Have there been other pairs of elections in which only two states flipped? on: November 07, 2012, 05:57:15 pm
From 1884 to 1888 only Indiana and New York flipped.
11  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Congressional Elections / Re: 2014 is going to be boring for Utah on: October 25, 2012, 08:36:20 pm
That's why it's great living in a state where there is guaranteed to be some type of election every two years, like states with governors up for reelection in even numbered years not evenly divisible by four. Presidential election one year, governor election two years later, Presidential election two years later...
12  Presidential Elections - Analysis and Discussion / 2016 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Is Chris Christie to "heavy' to be president? on: October 18, 2012, 02:36:42 pm
Just like Cleveland and Taft were too "fat" to be president? And neither of them died in office. Or maybe Taft was too "fat" to be Chief Justice for nine years? I can't believe this is even being talked about. If the parties were reversed, this would not be an issue.
13  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: Secret Service: We‘re ’Aware‘ of DNC Delegate’s Threat to ‘Kill’ Romney on: September 06, 2012, 05:12:58 pm
It's called free speech dude. Probably a good number of people on both sides feel the same about the opposite side's candidate.

"Free speech?"

14  General Politics / U.S. General Discussion / Re: CARLHAYDEN's not gonna like this... on: June 15, 2012, 03:02:59 pm
Yeah there's no way this should be legal.
15  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: Will Obama explicitly argue GOP blocked recovery for political reasons? on: June 07, 2012, 05:11:04 pm
Sure he will. It's time to pull out all the stops.
16  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / D.C. on: June 03, 2012, 03:50:04 pm
The last time D.C. swung Republican was from 1984-1988. I think Obama hit his ceiling in 2008; D.C. will ever so slightly swing Republican.
17  General Politics / Political Debate / Re: How should the date be formatted (dd-mm-yyyy vs yyyy-mm-dd, etc)? on: May 28, 2012, 04:15:50 pm
Month/Day/Year. Why fix what isn't broken?
18  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: Romney VP search: free-floating speculation and wish list thread on: May 26, 2012, 12:43:18 pm
1. Thune
2. Jindal
19  Election Archive / 2012 Elections / Re: If Obama endorsed same sex marriage, would it help his campaign? on: May 10, 2012, 11:10:21 pm
Little to no effect. He's definitely more polarizing.
20  Other Elections - Analysis and Discussion / Gubernatorial/Statewide Elections / Re: NC Passes Amendment One on: May 08, 2012, 09:52:15 pm
Thank God. Maybe there's hope for this country after all.

Yup.  And we'll take our country to a time when it was great- lynchings, church burnings, beatings- hell, maybe we'll even reinstate slavery!

PROGRESS.

Yes! Keep those completely ridiculous, irrelevant comparisons coming!

Ridiculous?  Irrelevant?  Give me a break.

Come out of the closet any time.

Can you please act like an adult? He's obviously enjoying your taunting.

There isn't exactly a rational way you can deal with these types of people. Tongue

Yes! Because comparing slavery and lynchings to anti-gay marriage is TOTALLY rational!

The bigots of today aren't that different from the bigots of yesterday.  Both support restricting rights to people on account of physical traits.  I see no reason why homophobia shouldn't be compared to racism.

Not that it matters, since there are studies which suggest that most of you guys are closet homos, anyway.

So most of the approximately 61% of North Carolinians who voted in this referendum are closeted gays. Makes sense to me!

Glad we're finally on the same page. Smiley

Me too Smiley
