4  Election Archive / 2004 U.S. Presidential Election / Re: Okay, once more. Who will win? on: November 02, 2004, 12:21:34 pm
Kerry, in a landslide. There are way too many Kerry signs and bumper stickers around my region that went 70% for Bush in 2000. In fact, I have never seen ANY stickers and signs for a Democratic Presidential candidate around here and the Bush supporters keep stealing the Kerry signs too! Our local Democratic HQ had a brick thrown through it's front window as well. I have been here for thirty years and have never seen anything like this.
5  General Politics / Individual Politics / Re: How would you vote on these Michigan ballot initiatives? on: October 26, 2004, 08:43:24 pm
Well, I already voted on my absentee ballot and voted yes on one and no on two and so did my wife. We also both voted a straight Democratic ticket too.

Vorlon is great. When I first posted here he warmly welcomed me and even asked me for my thoughts about the race in Michigan. I appreciated that. I don't post here often because I am usually here to look at all the fascinating information but I do look at the forum from time to time. As proof of his impartiality I recall earlier in the year Vorlon had Kerry ahead in his electoral collage prediction.

I believe that Tom Brady is also a Bush supporter. He was Laura Bush's guest at the 2004 SOTU address.
Yes, this is true. Brady is a Republican. I found that amusing because he went to the liberal University of Michigan. I wonder if the PC goons there turned him Republican or maybe he always was.

Granholm, I have already voted for her three times. When she was attorney general, gubernatorial primary and again for governor.

My first vote was for Jerry Brown in the 1992 Democratic Presidential Primaries when I was 18. What was yours?

I voted for Steve Forbes in the 1996 Republican Presidential Primary and in 2000 I voted for McCain. I might have even voted for McCain. I didn't agree with him on all issues but at least I have much more respect for him much than I ever have had for a Republican...unless we go back the first Roosevelt!
13  Forum Community / Election and History Games / Re:President Forever Returned! on: June 01, 2004, 06:38:50 pm
I found out about this game though this site and have been addicted ever since! My best game was playing 2004 as Al Sharpton and winning something like 360 electoral votes (including Texas!) I won by throwing two scandals at Bush who tried doing it to me but mine were much more powerful (He started the mud slinging!) I have also won big as McGovern by throwing lots of mud back at Nixon. My favorite is 1980 because it is so challenging to win as Carter and I never play with dynamism. I had an awesome game last week where I was over 400 electoral votes as Carter and the game crashed! I think out of playing Carter in 1980 about 100 times I have won maybe a dozen times and came very close several times. I also like 1968. I can beat Nixon one on one (as Humphrey) but with Wallace I can get the most electoral votes but rarely do I get a majority. Thank God my wife has a good sense of humor about this!
14  General Discussion / History / Re:Why did McGovern lose so badly? on: June 01, 2004, 09:14:36 am
Take a look at the Nixon attack ads here. In his book about the 1972 election, Hunter Thompson mentions these ads as one of the many reasons McGovern got clobbered. http://www.ammi.org/cgi-bin/video/years.cgi?1972,,ss,,,

If any of you haven't seen this site then I strongly recommend taking a look at it.

This site has TV ads for presidential candidates going all the way back to 1952. Remember these? If so feel free to share you opinion of them at the time and how you view them now in retrospect. Enjoy!

(Did Alachua have a Socialist/Communist enclave? or did they just not like Al Smith that much?)

I think Al Smith was the first Catholic to ever be nominated for president and that hurt him badly. Maybe it was their way of saying that Catholics are worse than communists.
17  General Politics / Individual Politics / Re:From Bush to Undecided on: April 13, 2004, 04:03:18 pm
You should vote for Kerry because he will bring back the surplus which was Clinton's achievement and which Bush squandered. Isn't it ironic that the ONLY President since I don't know when that has had not just a balanced budget but a SURPLUS is a Democrat? What has become of the Republican's claim of fiscal responsibility?
18  Election Archive / 2004 U.S. Presidential Election / Re:Strategy For Kerry on: April 13, 2004, 03:27:46 pm
Clearly my Missouri idea isn't exactly popular. In that case forget about it along with Ohio and Florida and go after the Gore states plus Nevada and West Virginia. Anyway, it's fun to think up majorities while leaving Ohio and Florida in the Blue column.
19  Election Archive / 2004 U.S. Presidential Election / Re:Strategy For Kerry on: April 13, 2004, 08:49:29 am
If Kerry wins, Missouri might get it wrong for only the second time.

I would concentrate on Ohio and Florida. I mean it would be insane not to. Smiley Especially, Florida.
I know it sounds wild but I think it would be better to combine the resources intended for Florida and Ohio and utilize them into a great big push in Missouri. I think Kerry has an excellent chance of retaining the Gore states because he does not have to deal with the baggage of the Clinton scandals the way Gore did (I really believe that cost him the election) so if Gore could win those states despite that then Kerry can too.
20  Election Archive / 2004 U.S. Presidential Election / Strategy For Kerry on: April 13, 2004, 08:30:45 am
If I were a strategist for Kerry I would concentrate on winning all the Gore states plus Missouri to get 271 electoral votes and not worry about Ohio and Florida.

Last November I was looking at an online article on the Gallup website and it said that the vast majority of Americans (80% I think) don't know who Ann Coulter is. She had a favorable rating of about 12% and her unfavorable rating was slightly lower. I am trying to get the article but they won't let me see it unless I sign up for a membership...Well, I'll just go by the article description. Rush had a 51% disapproval rating compared to 34% approval and Al Franken numbers were almost as bad and probably would have been worse if more people would have known who he was. I did buy Al Franken's book attacking Rush when it first came out (which wasn't that funny) and then Al turned into the left version of Rush...not what this country needs right now and I will never again give one cent of my money to anyone who gets rich by exploiting political differences. Certainly they have their choir that they preach to but I will not be one of them. I can make up my own mind.

I recall watching the episode of A&E's Biography on Goldwater. One of the more recent clips had him responding to the question of how he would've handled Vietnam and he said "Well, North Vietnam would've been a swamp" My personal favorite Goldwater quote "This is a country where anyone can grow up to be President...except me"
