South America has become the first continent where a majority of gays can legally marry. Brazil has more than half of the continent's population, even without Argentina and Uruguay.
Don't forget the French Guiana. I bet they don't even know they have gay marriage yet.

Analyst pegs revenue $3.2B higher than Gov. Brown
By JUDY LIN Associated Press Posted: 05/17/2013 12:20:17 PM PDT Updated: 05/17/2013 03:09:46 PM PDT
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—The state's independent budget analyst said Friday that California will take in $3.2 billion more in tax revenue than Gov. Jerry Brown estimated, providing Democratic lawmakers an argument to funnel more money into state programs and setting up a spending showdown with the administration. The Legislative Analyst's Office released its assessment of Brown's revenue and spending plan just days after the governor's budget update for the fiscal year starting July 1. It said the administration's figures do not reflect the improving economy, including higher capital gains from stock sales. "We do not agree with the administration's view that there has been a significant dimming of the state's near-term economic prospects," the analyst wrote.

The west supporting a rebellion by radical Islamists in a proxy war against Russia. Hasn't this happened before? Don't worry, we always stay good friends with our allies in that part of the world like the Afghan Mujahideen and Saddam Hussein.

Basically the Golden Mean Fallacy in human form, with a generally flaky and easily offended attitude on top of it. It's not only what Antonio alluded to (priding yourself in constant moderation, or taking the moderate path because it "feels" right) but also outright hostility to black or white positions, for seemingly no other reason than they are black or white positions. On some issues, the extreme or incredibly straightforward/blunt approach is sometimes the correct one. Basically, Moderate Heroes are nice and happy sounding but hold logically inconsistent or inefficient beliefs just because, deep down, they think being moderate lends them some sort of cachet. Economic stimulus is a good example of how to detect moderate heroism: Do you think increasing food stamp aid (just as one issue from that category) is a good idea in times of economic weakness? If I propose an additional 20 billion in food stamp funds, the moderate hero response wouldn't be "Yes, this will expand the program and help those in need" or "No, because food stamps are not much more effective in times of crisis" it would be "Okay, but just 15 billion instead." There is no logical consistency to that position, because it apparently accepts the premise that food stamp benefits are a good thing and that expanding them is a good thing, but it reduces the effectiveness for no apparent reason. That is what a Moderate Hero position is like. LOL, awesome cartoon on moderate heroism.

Does Arizona have an Initiative system in place? That way they could bypass the legislature entirely.
Yes, but a constitutional amendment requires a ton of voters to sign the petition, 15% of those who voted in the last gubernatorial election, or a bit over 250K. I don't see that happening anytime soon. For an issue like Gay Marriage, I think it could happen. It's certainly more likely than the legislative method.
