Whelp, I guess a boring and somewhat competent is better than an entertaining trainwreck dangerous pick for my interests. I doubt he will make trump any more appealing to the swing voters.

I wonder if Hillary's decision will be a reaction to trump's decision. If I were her, I would be a lot more ok with Kaine going up against a guy like Pence. If trump had picked someone firey (Christie, Gingrich), I would think she would have to fight fire with fire (Warren, Sanders (I know she wouldn't pick him but someone to do what he does)). Kaine would have a challenge going up against a strong and smart personality. But if trump is going to pick a relative snoozefest for vp, then she can get away with her snoozefest that she likes.

OK, since Trump has announced Pence, this thread is now just for Clinton VP news.

Is there actually a reason for Hilary to not offer the job to John Kerry again if he wants it? He seems to actually enjoy being SoS and has been pretty decent at it.

I could see Kerry, Biden, Richardson, or even Susan Rice, or Jake Sullivan as Secretary of State.

For his sake, I hope Biden can just ride off into the retirement sunset. He would have been a great SoS, but I think the dude needs a break.

I'm actually surprised Jeff Merkley didn't make the shortlist for VP. It would be a great way to satisfy the left, without the potential pitfalls of the other options (age, gender, and Senate seat, for Sanders/Warren/Brown respectively.)
I'm surprised Franken didn't

Well, I like Franken, but it's not exactly hard to see why he wasn't considered (SNL baggage.) I have a hard time thinking of an explanation for no Merkley.

I get the concern, but (asking in general) what did Franken do on SNL that was any more outrageous than something trump has done? Sure he may have done a few things that look goofy, but that should be countered pretty easily with how serious he has taken his job as a senator.

I just think his deadpan delivery and wit would be so invaluable in going up against trump. You don't stop a bully by telling him he's a mean kid; you beat him by pulling his pants down in front of everyone. I know I won't get my wish, but I hope the Democrats are aggressively smart and smartly aggressive on how they go after trump.

I have such a hard time believing that those are the three, but if they are, I think I would personally like to see Vilsack get the nod. I don't know if he is necessarily better than the others, but I think he will come across very well to independents. The only thing that worries me is Clinton-Vilsack comes across just as clunky as Dukakis-Bentsen, and that doesn't have a good ring to it.

That sounds about right. Hillary wants to surprise on Friday. Could be setting up a Warren pick when everyone is thinking that she is not a finalist.

Calm your horses people. Hillary may not be the best at running for president, but she won't be that dumb.

Everyone has a different top 3 every day. I am not buying it. Hillary knows who she is picking and her team is doing a good job of keeping the secret and knocking us off their trail.

I'm still holding out hope for a shock Warren or Brown, and will continue to do so until the moment Kaine/Vilsack/Booker steps onto the stage/flashes across the news media tomorrow.

I love how we are less than 12 hours away from this, and still no leaks as to who it is.  Great job on Hillary and her team.

So far, better than trump handled his announcement, but:

If Kaine is the pick I think its fair enough to say that it leaked.

Vilsack is a good man. Monsanto my eye. Progressives want to abolish everything business and it's absurd. Kaine, Vilsack, or even a dark horse would be good. She should not pick Perez. It will be seen as an "affirmative action" choice.

I really like these guys too and think they'd be great veeps, but I'm just concerned the Bernie-branch will revolt (go Green, won't vote, God forbid, vote for trump) if Hillary doesn't pick anyone progressive enough. She shouldn't have to appease them, but if she doesn't then we could be in trouble.

I'm guessing the announcement text will come somewhere between 12-1.

I'll have to walk around with my phone strapped to my face from 12 to 1 then.

I bet the text won't say a name, and but will have a link to a video where she announces the name.

I'm hoping she gives clues for how to find the running mate in Pokemon Go.

"Wild Kaine Appeared!"
"Go Hillary!"
"Hillary used RUNNING MATE"
"It's super effective!"
"Kaine joined your party!"

Or she walks into his office and tosses a pokeball at him!

Dan MericaVerified account

.@timkaine has landed in Boston for his noon fundraiser. Asked by @betsy_klein if he has talked to HRC, Kaine said, "No news to report."

They are soooo avoiding leaking any clues.

If anyone doesn't already know, Elizabeth Warren is scheduled to speak at the National Council of La Raza in Orlando tomorrow.

I'm still holding out for a Warren nod.

Me too
