That's a bit sad. Generation after generation after generation seems to be trapped in the same mindset. Still. After all these decades. 160 years after slavery officially ended in the south. 
What mindset are you talking about? There's nothing wrong with having a conservative approach to things. The idea they're still into segregation is a stereotype.
