Why didn't Thaksin just agree to break with Vajiralongkorn after like the 3rd time one of his governments was toppled?

Also, how come a majority of Thais like Thaksin if they hate his buddy Vajiralongkorn?

Why would he? Vajiralongkorn is Thaksin's meal ticket to permanent power. Thaksin is the prince's bankroller (the king has tried to limit his spending). Although you wonder what the benefit to Vajiralongkorn would be once he comes to power and comes into the $35 billion the Crown Property Bureau controls.

Thaksin has done things for them, the relationship can be overlooked, or, as some people have started doing, used to rehabilitate the Prince. (People have marched saying "We love the crown prince!")

This all sounds very George IV
