I've long assumed for awhile that that is the case having seen how Republican base voters go gaga over black Republicans. The most racist voters are independents or conservative Democrats.

Minnick is probably far more liberally personally than his actual voting record implies. This probably would show more back when the GOP controlled Congress and kept bringing up their silly wedge issue legislation and he'd be voting against abortion restrictions and the gay marriage amendment.
