Well congratulations Cao, you've arranged yourself a nice, high-paying lobbyist job starting in 2011.

Oddly enough, Jefferson Parish was where Bill Jefferson won big in 2006, while in New Orleans, he only won by 2%. And in this election, New Orleans is still close, but he lost Jefferson big time.

Black liberal vs. "anything-else" R is the answer there.

Actually the "liberal" blacks were probably the ones voting for Carter as precinct results show Carter got close to 100% of whites but Jefferson got probably around 75% of blacks. These results show that Cao got more of the white vote than Jefferson did of the black vote, Jefferson is doing worse among whites than Obama did in rural Mississippi.

Also the blacks clearly stayed home. See for example Ward 12 Precinct 19 which voted unanimously for Obama with 119 votes. Jefferson got 31 votes to Cao's 4.

Well who would've ever predicted that the first Indian governor and first Vietnamese Congressman would be from Louisiana?

I wonder how upset and sad WalterMitty is now.

I also realized Cao will be a way better rep for what New Orleans needs. It obviously needs tons of funding to revitalization, and you don't get that with a rep under a cloud. Cao will work better with the Democrats in rebuilding it than the disowned pariah Jefferson.

If Cao is smart he'll switch parties now. Tongue

That pretty much guarantees he'd get knocked off in the primary.

He probably has a much better chance winning as Michael Forbes than as Nick Lampson.

I can think of a better comparision...

Let's just hope whoever knocks Cao off is a lot better than who knocked him off...

I'm also pretty pissed off at now at the Feds for dragging their feet on Jefferson's trial. He was indicted more than a year ago! If they had convicted him already we would've had a non-corrupt Democrat in that seat ever since the special election after his resignation.

BTW if we needed any more proof that Walter's endorsement is the absolute kiss of death, if the guy he likes loses in THIS district...

The racial voting here is amazing. Cao might as well have got 100% of the white vote. Rahim might've beat Jefferson among whites. Meanwhile Jefferson probably got around 85% of the black but their turnout was rather low.

Interesting quote I read in some article, a black guy interviewed by a newspaper saying that he would've voted Jefferson but didn't vote because he didn't care so much about one more black Congressman after Obama's election. Jefferson probably would've hung on if McCain won, but Obama eliminated any reason for blacks to turn out.

I don't know why all of the Democrats are drooling over the *former* green party candidate.  He literally brags about being a former black panther.

1-He's not a Republican.
2-He wasn't caught with $90k in his freezer.

Just thought this was interesting.

Results for Tulane's precinct, 14 13-A: Cao 168, Jefferson 12, Rhim 11, Kahn 5.

In last months primary it was: Moreno 504, Jefferson 198

In October it was: Cedric Richmond 38, Moreno 29, James Carter 23, Troy Carter 6, Kenya Smith 5, Jefferson 2, Byron Lee, 1

Obviously, there is little love lost between us and Bill Jefferson.

And the Presidential results: Obama 931, McCain 279, Ron Paul 15, and Nader (who visited campus as part of his campaign) 9.

I'm convinced most of Jefferson's voters here in November were just people who showed up to vote for Obama but didn't know anything about the Congressional race so they just ticked the box for the incumbent.

Btw, did you see the snow this morning? Grin

Probably.  It's possible we have one or two students who actually like Jefferson or really disliked Moreno, but probably most voted for the incumbent.

The snow was awesome.  New Orleans was about the last place I expected to see it!  First time since I've seen snow since I was 8, when I was in Denver.

Wow. That is so alien and bizarre to me.
