Service industry workers

Looking at voting and precinct results between 2000 and 2004, I have noticed that most all areas containing a high number of service industry workers, especially those in the resort industry, veered toward the Dems.  Obviously, Nader did well in many of these areas, but I've seen a few areas where Bush broke 60% in 2000 and Kerry broke 60% in 2004.  Is this a result of higher turnout/registration among service industry workers, or did they just vote Republican for some reason in 2000?

Are you sure its the area; most service workers don't work where they live.

In remote resort towns, they generally have no choice, I would think.

I am talking about ski resorts and some more local results, such as around Twisp and Winthrop in Okanogan County, Wash.

It might not be; in some places they bus people in.

This is not an especially affluent area.

Moderate voter turnout increases for the most part, clearly indicating above average registration increase relative to population increase.  Still, it was a major shift toward Kerry.
