I'm actually surprised Jeff Merkley didn't make the shortlist for VP. It would be a great way to satisfy the left, without the potential pitfalls of the other options (age, gender, and Senate seat, for Sanders/Warren/Brown respectively.)
I'm surprised Franken didn't

Well, I like Franken, but it's not exactly hard to see why he wasn't considered (SNL baggage.) I have a hard time thinking of an explanation for no Merkley.

I get the concern, but (asking in general) what did Franken do on SNL that was any more outrageous than something trump has done?

Well, by that standard, any pick is fair game. Tongue Hillary shouldn't be trying to compete with Trump in unseriousness.

This is not my opinion, btw. I think Franken would be a pretty good choice. I'm just saying there's nothing mystifying about his absence.

Where is this Vilsack buzz coming from? Why is this happening, and why are people pretending this is a normal thing? Have I awoken in some sort of bizarro world where bronz4141 is running the Clinton campaign?

Yeah, next she'll be vetting Dick Gephardt and Sam Nunn. Hillary needs to stop catering to the bronz vote.

LOL at the idea of a single voter thinking "Wow, I'm really going to vote for Hillary after she picked Tom Vilsack as VP!"

Does Iowa even care about him anymore?

Kaine, Brown, and Warren are announced as speakers at the DNC.  Castro, Perez, and Vilsack are not.

Take that as you will.

Obama banned his cabinet from speaking at the convention, so this could be a strike against Kaine and Warren, but it means nothing for the other 3.

Not really. Omitting Kaine or Warren would make it very obvious as well. Including the non cabinet secretaries and none of the cabinet secretaries makes it a wash.

I think a Kaine vs. Pence VP debate may have historically low ratings.

Why on earth is she texting it out with no context in the middle of the evening on a day where the media cycle is already full?  Not only will it be the second most important news of the day, but she's letting others define the story for her instead of building a story herself with a big glowing press conference about Kaine.  Just wait a day.

You all care wayyyy too much about winning worthless daily news cycles. Just like nobody cares about Pence now, nobody will care about Kaine in a week anyway.

Maybe people would care more about Pence if Trump had owned an entire weekend with the story he wanted.  Pence should have been better for Trump than he has.  Of course, the flawed rollout and awkward interview didn't help.

Nobody will ever care about Mike Pence.
