Right. There are ample ways to let your voices be heard even if you are not in the senate. Forming a political party is one way, but PACs, organizations, newspapers et all are ways to push your ideas. I remember when I first joined and the right was going through a renaissance, it used the National Weekly Atlasia as its mouthpiece. We once had much more discussion outside of elections, and nowadays it seems like the senate talks and the board goes stale until an election pops up. I am not sure what the federal government can realistically do in order to spur debate. It is up to individuals to do that. There was no piece of legislation passed that saw the right resurgence in 2009, nor did the Senate form the RPP. It just happened. Activity in the game will ultimately rebound when more people want it to rather than a chosen few. It has to be a team effort.

My 89 year old grandfather is having some health complications this weekend. I apologize for being inactive, but these things take priority.

Anyone here think we should have a debate before we vote, or does it not matter?

I am all for groups and such to form for people to be able to organize and the like. I had interpreted the "everyone should have a position in Atlasia" as being that we should all be in elected office, which at the time was not denied, I believe, when someone questioned the proposal. Tongue

We all need a place to go when we join. When I joined, in my younger more rebellious days, I immediately became part of the new right unification and Southeast crisis. Had that not happened, it is likely i would not have stuck around Atlasia because I would have grown bored.

The problem today is Atlasia is essentiality a 2 party system with few active high-powered officials and a bunch of "voters." We have movements that begin and end because those who begin them feel powerless to break the stranglehold the elites have on the game or the leadership just gives up.

Unfortunately, these organizations can only be achieved at the grassroots level. It is not something any administration can really do on their own. We cannot legislate activity. The beautiful thing about the period when I joined is there were so many dedicated, active and driven people involved in the game. Each day, we should have tons of threads, discussions and activity. That has dissipated. Just look at this election. People have accepted it as a foregone conclusion at the onset and no one even cares if we debate the issues or not. We hardly have any activity in Atlasia, even the last election had little debate and little discussion leading up to the vote. I don't blame people for feeling disenchanted.

If I am elected, I promise my administration will do all we can to encourage activity outside of just the senate threads. However, it will be up to the people to get it done. We cannot legislate it. We will need a President who is approachable, active, and one that understands what needs to be done and is not afraid to get his hands dirty, so to speak.

I want to say one final piece before the voting booth opens tomorrow night. I have enjoyed this campaign immensely. I feel Cincinnatus and I have presented a smart, succinct, workable platform to the Atlasia people. We want to tackle tax reform, revamp our immigration and transportation systems, protect our environment and implement a real energy plan that will free us from unsavory sources once and for all! We have also laid out a jobs plan that can get people back to work while encouraging the private sector to grow their payrolls.

But enough of the policy, because everyone knows most people hardly pay attention to it. The truth is, Atlasia is at a crossroads. For all my years here, I have not seen it in a state like it is today. No one can really be blamed for it. The game is as good as what we make of it. The biggest challenge for the next President will not be reforming education or pushing a new tax plan, it will be engaging the public in national conversations. We cannot sit idle by and allow the game to continue on this trajectory, or we will see things worsen.

The next President must be active, visible and communicating with the public as frequently as he can. The government cannot legislative activity, but we must allow and be welcoming of grassroots movements and caucuses. Everyone in the game must have a voice and they must have a president that will listen to their voice. The legislation of the game should not come exclusively from ideas of the few senators in the halls of the senate, but from everyone in Atlasia, from the one assemblyman to the member of the Defense Caucus. One of best things about the game during the time I became active was the wealth of diversity of ideas. There are not simply one or two lines of thinking. There were six and seven lines of thinking. We need a revival or we will slip into mediocrity, where elections are forgone conclusions and legislation is passed simply because it meshes with an ideology regardless of its quality.

On the eve of this election, I hope everyone considers their choices, and they are all good ones, in this election. But I hope many of you will settle on this old timer from the Southeast and a fresh face who has done a heck of a job in the Northeast Assembly and running his own party to boot.

Thanks to anyone who reads this, and may the best man in this election win!

Assuming the vote totals remain as we expect them to, I want to congratulate Snowguy on his victory. We put up a heck of a fight, but it looks like the votes will not fall in our favor. I gave it my all in what will likely be my final election! My campaign got the most votes any RPP ticket has ever gotten, and we ran a campaign with ideas, solutions and did it with class. I am proud of what we accomplished.

Thanks to all who supported me, congratulations to all the newly elected and reelected Senators, and good luck to our future administration!

Y'all ran a great race. If there was anyone I'd prefer my ticket to lose to, it'd be Duke/Cincinattus. Or maybe the Duke/Bacon King write-in vote that Polnut made Tongue I do recall back in the day, Duke, you and I talked about such a unity ticket quite often. Hell, maybe one day!

Hey, if that is ever possible, you know where to find me. Congrats on your victory. Don't let The People down! Wink

There will be a slight delay in the announcement. The senator is taking law school exams today, and will hopefully make his announcement tonight. He apologizes to The People for his delay.

Will you pass your law exam with flying colors?

You have no way of knowing with them. It's based on curves and the like, so I will not know a thing until mid January.

Well everyone, the time has come for this all important announcement before I hit the grind on my civil procedure outline in preparation for my exam on Friday. I have been hinting at this for some time, but with elections forthcoming, I need to make it official. I am not seeking reelection to  the senate. I know, what will everyone do without me? It's been two years to this election that I first made it into the senate, and I somehow have managed to get reelected over and over again. But I felt it was time to give some new people a chance to serve, and I am fully confident that Junkie and TJ will fill my shoes nicely when the new session meets in January. I just hope they remember the importance of communication, especially with the voters. That is my only advice.

This announcement is bittersweet. When I made this conscious decision a few weeks ago, I thought back on my time in the senate. I thought back to the elections that I won and lost. The legislative successes and failures. I will miss those I have worked with over the years, especially Yankee and Marokai. I think everything we managed to accomplish (and still are, as some of Marokai and I's bills will remain in debate after I leave) is good for the game, and I hope going forward, that can continue to be the trend. I look forward to following the discussion and reform talks going forward, this time as a private citizen and not someone in government.

I do not know what I will do in relation to Atlasia now. I have entertained running for IDS legislature in the future, and I certainly want to write for The People's Paper and give back to The People for the two years they gave me. I also want to have a hand in the future of the RPP or whatever happens with the dissolve debate. I will not sit here and say this is it forever, because we all know how difficult it is to kick the habit of Atlasia. But for now, I will join the legions of retirees.

In closing, I want to again thank all my supporters and friends from all sides of the isle through the years. I have enjoyed it, and if you ever need anything, I am still going to be around, albeit in a much quieter fashion. I wish my successors the best of luck.

Duke

P.S. Donations are still more than welcome to DukePAC. The money will go to good causes, I promise, and if I ever do run for office again, I will gladly take advantage of everyone's kindness.

Maybe we both can become Lt. Governors?Huh How fun would that be? And we wouldn't have any responsibilities!

I'm making this statement purely for my supporters and not for those who will take issue with me regardless of what I do. A week and a half ago, my girlfriend of two years and I broke up. Needless to say, I had a crappy holiday and have been doing a lot of soul searching recently during our period of no contact. Atlasia has been the furthest thing from my mind. Granted, it is no excuse for my inactivity but I thought I would let those interested know my situation. It looks like I picked a good time to retire after all.

An announcement from my former lover and current political partner AndrewPA is coming soon. I won't say we have rekindled our affair, but we may be looking to throw our hats into a race fairly soon. Besides, there's nothing like an old choice for a new Atlasia!

Yaaay!!! clusterf***!

The parties have been torn apart by the mysterious powers that be, so we might as well cause even more problems than we should. We don't expect to win, but we do expect to show everyone how much we appreciate our love for one another. This will be a peaceful campaign based on self respect, love and humanity!

If you referring to Mr. AndrewPA and I loving ourselves, then yes, you would be correct. We feel we are the best candidates to take over this dying game. Otherwise, we wouldn't be running! Wink

Friends, its time we put aside our inhibitions and turned this game over to two people that you might not trust, you might not like, but you feel are crazy enough to turn things around! Let me assure you, when we win, the whisky and Pabst will be flowing freely!

Can we lower the drinking age for a day so I can join t3h party? Curly

This ticket believes as long as you're of the age of consent to use a woman's hoohaa, the age of 14, you should be able to drink! So, yes, upon inauguration, you will be able to partake in the festivities!
