If an alien (be it human or extraterrestrial) asks you:
"Tell me something about the State of X, about its people, about its government, about its landscape, about its climate, about its history, about its elections, about its industry, about its agriculture, and so on",
what state(s) would make you hit the brick wall of your knowledge?

My opinion:

1.) Oregon. Don't get me wrong; I don't dislike this state, and there quite many Oregonian users I like. But I hardly know anything about its politics and how its people think (beside the fact that they are -overall - very liberal, with a quite conservative eastern part.) Plus, it is a late primary state.
To me, Oregon is just a state created in order to fill up the vacuum between California and Washington.

2.) South Dakota. Even though home land of North America's most famous mountain, I know very little about its politics. A safe Republican state and traditionally one of the last states to hold a primary, it is almost completely beyond media's radar range. Seriously, why do we need two Dakotas?

3.) Nebraska. If it didn't split its electoral votes, nobody, even in this forum, would give anything for this state.

4.) Rhode Island Seriously, why does it have the right to be a state? If it hadn't been for the TV series, this state would never have been mentioned in the media.

5.) Kansas Only thanks to Christian extremists it's been finding its way to the media (Brownback, Phelps etc.).

Wyoming is a rather unknown state, but Idaho is even more arcane to me.
