If true this might be a last ditched attempt to rally his vote base in SC to turn out in large numbers to get him to third and give him a chance to be the establishment alternative to Trump/Cruz.  If he does not make it third he will have a slow death anyway. So might as well gamble everything in one last throw.

I don't know if he is going to make it over the finish line for SC. This kind of mindset right now suggests he could drop anytime between now and Saturday.
