This conflict is not a result of Hamas's existence. The environment in which Hamas flourishes was created by Israeli's policy of illegal settlements and the ghetto-ization of Gaza. Like ag said, if every Hamas soldier suffered a heart attack tomorrow, some other group would fill their place. You might not think Hamas's nationalist ideology isn't so bad if it's the Islamic State or a similar jihadist group which fills the void.
