Okay, fine. I really don't have a problem with this. It's the whole point of the electoral college - if the masses select a candidate that the electors collectively believe is fundamentally unfit for the presidency, they can and should reject that candidate. The founders never intended to trust the masses with the selection of the president, only that any such vote they conducted would be a non-binding recommendation to the electors. The current partisan operation that exists in the selection of the electors really needs to be reformed.

And to those wanting evidence that the masses cannot be trusted, look no farther than the fact that a literal fascist got the republican nomination and a socialist came within a couple points of having the most state wins in the democratic primary.

There's quite a difference between one person making a decision to not vote for Clinton in the ballot box on their own - Quite frankly in a state like Washington I don't care if he writes in Bernie Sanders or whatever his choice might be. But he's going to be sent to the electoral college - he should respect what the voters of his state says or resign.

More proof the electoral college is garbage.

If we don't allow electors to vote their conscience, then there is no point to the electoral college - every other argument for it has an obvious counterargument.

there is no point to the electoral college.

It gives small states outsize influence on the process of electing the President.

In theory, it does this, but in reality, it really doesn't. If small states really had so much influence, then we'd see candidates spending time in them, right? Instead, while one gets attention - NH - others only get attention once in while - ME/NE/MT/ND - And the rest -  WY/SD/DC/ID/WV/VT/RI/DE/NM - get left for dead. The electoral college doesn't make candidates listen to small states. It doesn't make them listen to big states either - TX/NY/CA generally get left for dead as well. What it does is make candidates listen to a small number of very close states at the expense of everyone else, because the margin does not matter, only the winner.
