Schumer had better have a filibuster ready.

Then say goodbye to the filibuster for SCOTUS appointments.

Pryor seems like the favorite but my dark horse pick is Gorsuch.

Ayyy look at that, CBS sources say Neil Gorsuch is a leading candidate, and that the focus is on him, Pryor, and  Hardiman (with Gorsuch seen as less of a fight than Pryor).

Trump says he will announce his pick next week. The front-runner appears to be Gorsuch.

Clearly we should wait until after the 2020 election. The American people deserve to have their voice heard, after all.

In addition to those previous reports about Gorsuch, WashPost sources say Trump's top candidates are "William Pryor of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in Atlanta, Neil Gorsuch of the 10th Circuit in Denver, Thomas Hardiman of the 3rd Circuit in Philadelphia and Raymond Kethledge of the 6th Circuit in Cincinnati."

Anything big to know about Hardiman or Kethledge?

Kethledge is unlikely to be picked, but Hardiman is also now emerging as a potential top pick with Gorsuch. He's known for a ruling that jail strip searches of all those arrested is not unconstitutional. He's also big on gun rights. Fun fact about him is he did not attend an Ivy League school.

Order of likelihood is probably about: Gorsuch>>Hardiman>>>Pryor>>>Kethledge.

SCOTUSblog has some good profiles on Gorsuch and Hardiman.

Forgot to update this before, but Trump tweeted the announcement will be on Thursday (though there's a pretty good chance the name will leak before then).

Hearing from WH that Trump's plan to announce SCOTUS pick on Thurs is not definite. Could come sooner -- really, whenever he feels like it.

Now that I think about it, we should consider Trump's habit of choosing people that "look the part". In that regard, Hardiman may have an advantage on Gorsuch.

Mitch McConnell just instagrammed a photo with this caption:

The Supreme Court plays a critical role in our nation. I look forward to the President's selection.

There's still a pretty good chance the name could leak today at some point.

The sense seems to be that Pence+Ryan+Priebus want Gorsuch, but Trump and his sister want Hardiman. After selling Trump on Gorsuch, Trump may have flipped to Hardiman and ended up with him for his final decision.

Does anyone else think it's terrible that the court has become so politicized, and that we care more about a justice's position on a particular social issue than their ability and knowledge of the law?

Yes but it's not like that's a new development.

On this SCOTUS-reveal eve, the PredictIt prices for Gorsuch and Hardiman are pretty much even at 49% and 44% respectively. Pryor is in a distant third place at 7%.

Crazy thought: What if both of them are being nominated, and an additional Justice (Thomas perhaps) is stepping down?

The choice has presumably already been made and the candidate has most likely already been informed, so why would both agree to come to Washington? Is it really worth it to build the extra suspense when the choice is being announced tonight anyway?

If there is a dual nomination, it could explain why networks have conflicting sources that seem very confident their guy is getting nominated.

Judicial Crisis Network prepped ads for either SCOTUS pick, launching $2M TV & digital campaign tonight in MO, IN, MT, DC

The Judicial Crisis Network is a conservative group, and it looks like they're going to try and pressure McCaskill, Donnelly, and Tester into voting for confirmation.
