I think he's afraid to lose the birther-supporters. But he also realizes that he was to acknowledge Obama as natural-born citizen if he wants black votes.

And this shows that he is able to jump ship in order to cut losses, but it's further proof to indicate what a "deplorable" dirtbag he is.
