You mean a typical Republican?

No.

Wait, what even are his political views?  I just thought he was a typical social conservative.

But half of the equation.

His views are middle-of-the-road in the Republican voter base.

1) I certainly wouldn't call the mass of people who voted for Trump (including a majority of Independents) the "Republican voter 'base.'"

2) I'd still say he's noticeably to the left of the middle of that group.

Face it: the Republican base is collectivist, and this is only becoming more true over time. Two or three cycles and Republican candidates (perhaps not Presidential ones, but certainly Statewide nominees) will begin advocating Keynesian policies.

LOL, okay, buddy.  Even if you were "on to something," you appear willfully blind to the fact that the Democratic base is ten times as *collectivist*, which makes it so hilarious that you are attaching your elitism wagon to that party.

You are the one who insists nearly every day that most Trump voters are typical Republicans, i.e. the base.

Typical Republicans =/= the base.  The base tends to be the most loyal and most ideological part of a party's electorate, and I'd argue that's not who Trump won.  He regularly won independents in all of the primaries, and a lot of exit polls point to him bringing a lot of new voters to the party's primary process.  I'd argue Cruz "won the base."  The base did turn out for him just fine in the GE, but so did most moderates, business types, neocons, etc.  The point I have been making is that Trump's specific ideology (to the extent such a thing exists) should not be seen as TOO MUCH of a reflection of Republican voters, what they think or who they are.  He was the catch-all candidate for everyone plssed off at "the Establishment" and DC, in general.  He won moderates in most states' contests, after all.  So, no, I do not think the "typical Republican" shares his views so much as the "typical Republican" will likely stay more loyal to the nominee no matter what than the "typical Democrat," and that includes everyone from the rich businessman, the evangelical mom, the Iowa farmer, etc.  They largely all stayed in line, at least enough for him to win.
