We've mismanaged our hard and soft power me thinks.  Regarding hard power at least, somewhere along the line we need to find the proper balance between flexing our muscle and non-intervention.  It is all well and good to say, close the foreign bases, bring the troops home, keep our nose out of everyone's business, but you better have a pretty good idea on how to balance those proposed decreases in hard power with increases in soft power (more mcdonalds! Walmarts and the like...ok, I kid on those two establishments, but you get the idea).

At this point China is likely more worried about upsetting Wal-Mart than it is about upsetting our State Department.

Hmm, is Walmart our Shadow State Department then?
