Begley/Sykes tightened up quickly. Wonder what precincts are out, the Fondren and Belhaven boxes should go heavy for Begley.

Majority black district? If so - not surprising...

Yeah, I think its like 70% black. But it does include some of the liberal white Jackson precincts.

Yep. Although I think Begley is pretty liberal for a MS white. But always going to be tough for any white guy to win in this type of district.

The GOP has actually fielded a decent candidate here for the general. Pete Perry, Hinds County GOP chairman.

Off topic, but congrats to the 2 MSU fans in this thread on the win last night. My guys were able to keep it interesting for a little while but ultimately the talent gap was too large. Good luck against LSU.

Yeah, I think the AG race is in play but Hood should still win. I look for Hurst to win all the counties that Simpson won in '11 (DeSoto, Rankin, Lamar, Hancock, Pearl River). I could see Harrison, Jones, Jackson, and Madison flipping to Hurst and maybe a few random rural counties.

I will say that I am considering voting for Hurst. Mainly because I think Hood is a shill for the MPAA, his dispute with Google makes no sense to me.

Heard today from #sources that Hurst is within single digits of Hood, per an internal poll taken less than a month ago.

10% is probably the basement, I think even a Bernie Sanders type would do better than Obama (he voted against the Brady Bill 20 years ago!). Statewide and legislative races are another story.

Well in the race that the article is about, I think Childers wins. But the GOP should still retain the chamber, I stand by my prediction that their numbers will be something in the high 60s after the elections in November. The Democrats do have a slim chance at taking back the House (maybe 10%), if everything goes right.

When you see the Anti42 commercials talk about a "liberal Hinds County Judge", most people know they mean "black Hinds County judge". Carpenter's comments are certainly offensive, but it's not much different that what the GOP has been doing during the entire Init42 campaign.

What will be the likely result of this initiative?

Probably will fail.

The alternate wording is going to make this hard to pass, IMO. RethinkMS had a good article on this: http://www.rethinkms.org/2015/01/13/legislatures-alternative-language-school-funding-initiative/

BTW, the precinct results for this will be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how it breaks down in the white NE Jackson boxes where most people send their kids to private school. Same goes for the white precincts in the Delta.

Yes, more conservative on social issues compared to economy, education, general fiscal policy, etc

45 people were given a sample ballot for 42, only 4 were able to fill it out correctly: http://hechingerreport.org/state-of-confusion-mississippians-baffled-over-upcoming-school-funding-vote/

42A seems ridiculous. So if there's n enforcement why clutter the constitution with it? Decoration?

42A was just something the Legislature added to the ballot in hopes that it would confuse the hell out of the voters and make the initiative harder to pass. Simple as that.

Has the Kemper power plant been an issue beyond the PSC races, or are voters resigned to being screwed?

Definitely a big deal in the PSC races. Mississippi Power is giving $350 million in refunds to customers but I think a rate increase may still be on the table. Democrats could actually win all 3 PSC seats. Presley should win in the North district, Cecil Brown has a shot in the Central district, and Tom Blanton has a real chance in the South district. Blanton was the one who filed the case to the state Supreme Court that required Mississippi Power to refund customers, otherwise he would have no chance. Most people concede that he is "crazy as a loon" (not my words!) but are voting for him because he fought to stop the rate increase.

Any specific website where I can watch results coming in? Will CNN be doing any coverage?

AP will have something tomorrow, I'm sure. MPB Think Radio will be on the air tomorrow night discussing the election, and their coverage is typically very good.

Under the radar election: Stone County (pop. 18,000) is voting on liquor.
