I can only imagine what a difficult experience this was for the mayor, and for that my sympathies are with him. Honestly, this is one of the most difficult choices the gay community must make. Some people have not had the benefit of acceptance from themself and from others, but it is necessary to speak in our own defense. There is much to be gained from exposing the blatant hypocrisy of Ed Schrock, Jon Hinson, and the others, but we must always view this as a solemn duty carried out to fight off those who would do us wrong in the most elementary matters of justice. Above all, we must realize that at the heart of the matter, there is a personal tragedy for someone with similar experiences to us, and we must never remove that from our consideration.

I noticed that too, Opebo. It amazes me how someone can decry a victim mentality while swimming in oceans of self-pity about how feminists are supposedly manipulating the system to serve their ends. If a white male of comfortable means who grew up in Westchester County can be considered wronged in that way, I don't see how anyone else can't be considered a victim as well.
