Trump asking whether Washington and Jefferson are next was actually a good point that got lost among his more provocative remarks in that bizarre Trump Tower press conference.

Washington and Jefferson are memorialized for the good things they did for the U.S. However, they also owned slaves.

Lee and Jackson are memorialized for fighting against the U.S. and in support of slavery. And they owned slaves, but that seems trivial by comparison to fighting for slavery.

Basically.

The extent to which we should celebrate the founders who owned slaves is an important debate to have, but acting like they're equivalent to the Confederates is just wrong.
