Meanwhile at the Citadel...

http://abcnews.go.com/US/citadel-investigating-cadets-white-hoods-incident/story?id=35697005

I think the take home message from all this is teenage white male suburban kids being rubbed the wrong way by one thing or another is the real crime and most important thing to talk about.  Can't wait for the Atlas diaper squad to grow up, get jobs, and see what the real world is like.

Seriously?  Someone at Yale suggests (to people who should know better) that blackface isn't a good Halloween costume and people come unglued?  Makes you wonder how unhinged these people would get if something really bad actually happened to them and their people... like, ya know, slavery.

Look, children you shouldn't wear blackface.  More importantly you shouldn't have to be told not to wear blackface.  Even more importantly you shouldn't be going to YALE of all places and need to be told not to wear blackface.  At no decent company in the civilized world is this even a discussion.  If you plan on going to medical school, law school, working on Wall St, working in government etc after your Yale years you will not get hired if there are pictures of you in blackface floating around on the internet.  If you cannot understand this take SCOTUS extraordinaire Scalia's advice and please drop out of Yale and go to a less academically rigorous school where you will be more successful.

My God.  The discussions on this forum.  Seriously is everyone posting here really 15 and never had a job?!  People in big people world with careers on the line do not have these conversations.  This is seriously dumb sh-t no one with half a brain would do.

Are you slow? Even this forum, with all its odd demographics, is able to see that these people are insane for not living in the real world and making issues out of nothing. I don't understand what you are attacking the forum about. If it's for wasting time making fun of these crazy people, well, then I guess you're here too for a reason posting nonsense on the Internet. Your argument literally makes no sense.

It is entirely possible there is something I'm missing here.  I am by no means perfect.  I don't get it.  I perused the thread and saw all kinds of statements about free speech and affirmative action.

I mean bottom line, don't wear blackface.  That's the beginning and the end of it.  Not really a jumping off point to a broader discussion.

The Yale e-mail is not about blackface.

Sorry, man.  I read the NY Times.  I can't help it if they lied about the whole thing...

This is not the Yale e-mail that caused an uproar. The follow-up email from the dorm "master" or whatever her title is to the same recipient list saying to just exercise sound judgement caused a massive flip out. People didn't flip out over being asked to not wear blackface. People flipped out because others weren't being completely controlled.

Alright I don't get it.  My understanding is an email was sent out saying don't wear blackface. And then a college master said, "Muh free speech" and then a bunch of people were rightly appalled.

If you are going to reduce paragraphs of paragraphs of text into one word biased ultra-simplifications intended to stir a ruckus, then you are worse then most Republicans (and College leftists), but feel however you want, as that was not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is to make fun of people who whine about non-issues.

Your post makes no sense and is actually quite offensive.  Yale told students, who should know better, not to wear blackface.  The a college master, of all things, wrote a letter examining the other side of the issue... even though any sane person knows there is no other side to, "drunk privileged white teenagers please don't wear blackface when you are partying."

Here is the email from the idiot master in case you haven't read it...

I'm sure a black student at Yale would really feel their concerns are being taken seriously after reading that.

Actually this quote is probably the best...

Asking Yale students not to wear blackface=foisting

Yeah after reading that quote and many others the conclusion I come to is the students are "ridiculously infuriating".  Yeah, it's not the faculty who write waffling academic diatribes in response to "don't wear blackface".  Sure... it's the students who are a problem.  Let's make fun of them.

Seriously guys.  Go ahead.  Wear blackface.  Then one day when you actually have a job and pictures of you running around in blackface with your drunk white teenage privileged friends surfaces forward that letter to HR and then see if you ID badge works Monday morning.

f-cked up man.  Real f-cked up.

Hahahahaha, you are literally the dumbest person I have encountered on this forum, and we've had a bunch. Not one person mentioned Yale....

The Yale e-mail is not about blackface.

Yale was mentioned.  The email was about blackface.

Reread your original post. YOU brought up Yale on page 4. None of the first three pages mentioned it. This thread is not about the Yale incidents. Not a single person has spoken in support of it. You just attacked the entire forum for supporting blackface when not a single person spoke in support, troll.

That just begs the question why did you lie and say the Yale email wasn't about blackface?  You keep changing your story.  First the email wasn't about blackface.  Once I prove with a quote and a link to the NY Times that it is about blackface you are now hammering the forum saying this thread isn't about Yale.  Now you want to change the subject.  It doesn't work that way.  You posted something that was 100% false.  Instead of being gracious about it and admitting your mistake you lash out and start calling me names.

There are some definite issues on campuses in this country.  I don't know what about those issues makes you feel the appropriate response is to make fun of the people raising those issues.  Sure those concerns have varying levels of validity but when you post an open ended thread like this and even worse lie about the Yale email what result do you expect?  There is plenty of stuff to joke about and lampoon.  You really can pick another topic.

It's a serious topic Steve.  If there is a valid topic for this thread then just explain it instead of attacking people.  I've seen multiple posts by multiple people jumping from campus to campus issue to issue.  I am just pointing out that there are some very real concerns.  Not all  of them are necessarily serious to me nor do I necessarily agree with how some people express some of their concerns but with some of the flippancy I've seen here I needed to give a little push back.

The e-mail is not explicitly about blackface. As I said you over simplifying it based on the issues one side if portraying the New York Times from the original e-mail prior to this one.

Yale sent out an email to everyone in the organization asking them not to wear blackface.  A master wrote a direct response to that email.  As you said there were "paragraphs and paragraphs" and at no point in that long rambling response did the master make any carve outs regarding chastising people for blackface.  She didn't even imply it.  Complete tone deafness.  That was my point of posting in this thread.  This master's response and your spinning of said response are understandably offensive to people.  That's all I'm saying.  There is just a baffling lack of sensitivity.

If someone sends you an email asking you not to wear blackface and you send a response with the words "free speech" I'm sorry but your response is about blackface and you are totally tone deaf.  And if someone gets offended because of your actions that does not make them fodder for lampooning.  Really.  If that is trolling or whatever you guys want to call then fine I'm a troll.
