Remove L.A. and NYC and what's the popular vote? I'd say those areas are not culturally representative of most of America.

Irrespective of cultural differences, how does the fact that I live in a liberal coastal area make my vote matter less? Isn't any part of America, by definition, part of American culture?

Don't forget that when he refers to "the majority," he means the majority of White, heterosexual, Christians who don't live on the coasts or in big cities. According to him, that's America. Everything and everyone else is foreign and not to be taken into consideration.

Honestly, what's more representative of America? A white guy or a transgendered person who is also trans-racial and drives a trans-am and who is upset about the undoing of the transpacific partnership?

This is a relevant thread, where a guy talks about his model to convert generic ballot numbers to House seat changes. He claims that given incumbency/tenure/etc, Democrats will need 58% of the two-party vote to flip the House.

Lowkey, I've always kind of wondered what would happen if someone set up their own version of Overtime Politics and just made up polling that showed Trump with 60% approvals, R+10 on the generic ballot, etc. How many r/T_D types would latch onto that because they have nothing else at this point?

Nor would I be surprised to see this country Balkanize in my lifetime. It's polarized to civil war era levels (the bloodiest war in American history - wonderful) and it's only been getting worse throughout my entire life (born in 96').

Eh, our country went through much worse in the Depression and came out the other end. That doesn't give us license to sit back and relax as democracy flails, of course, but I don't think the current political turmoil is an existential threat to the republic at this point.
