I don't know, this election has been in uncharted territory since at least January.  It is ripping apart many old alliances, such as conservatives and the GOP.  Ann Coulter hates the GOP now.  Never thought I'd see the day.  No matter how this election turns out, it may take decades to repair those alliances in the GOP

The majority of the GOP voted against Trump. So there's no suspension of democracy whatsoever.
But it's never been done before in the modern era of radio and TV.  Maybe ever.
To see it even attempted would be historic.  These conventions are supposed to be planned out, scripted coronations.
