Town Hall in Grinnell, Iowa

November 30

Rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

“In this country today, the rich only get richer, while those in poverty struggle to get by. Just yesterday in Newton, I met a single mother who was struggling every day to get food on the table to feed her children. I know how that feels. I’ve been there. Together, we can fix this travesty. I have a three-point plan that will fix income inequality and help those who are just barely getting by, or maybe even not at all.”

December 3

Town Hall in Fort Madison, Iowa

“Once she took office, Hillary Clinton almost instantaneously sent American soldiers into Iraq. How will your foreign policy differ from President Clinton, especially in regard to Iraq?”
“I opposed the Iraq War from the start, and while I admire President Clinton, I completely disagree with the idea sending us back into Iraq. My foreign policy will be a little different from the these hawkish decisions being made right now in Washington. We live in a complex world, where military action may have unforeseen consequences. Instead military action should be a last resort, once all lines of diplomacy have failed.”

December 5

Arrive in Vermont
Rally in Burlington, Vermont (w/ Bernie Sanders)

“In this world, when the richest one percent of Americans are making ninety percent of the wealth, when the real unemployment for African-Americans is 31 percent, when millions of Americans still do not have any health insurance, we need change. There is only one candidate I know of that will bring the change we need. This candidate. . . is Donna Edwards!”

December 9

“You propose such ideas as debt free college and expanding Medicare and Social Security. How will you pay for all of this?”
“People have been asking me how I’m going to pay for these policies I keep proposing a lot, and I recently released my tax plan, which gives you all the details. I will raise taxes on the rich and wealthiest Americans. In doing so, I will be able to cut your taxes and give middle class and poor Americans the tax breaks they so desperately need in these times. I will also cut our enormous defense budget and remove a lot of the useless programs in there.”

December 11

Town Hall in Orangeburg, South Carolina
Town Hall in Summerville, South Carolina
Rally in Charleston, South Carolina

December 12

Arrive in Nevada
Town Hall in Henderson, Nevada

Endorsements

Bernie Sanders - See Above

Kirsten Gillibrand - “I agree with Donna Edwards in a lot of places. It makes sense that I would endorse her. She is an impressive progressive, and I mean it. She has an impressive record in Congress, she has outstanding experience outside Washington, and the ideals she is running on ring true to all of us. I encourage New Yorkers to vote for her in the primaries.”

Chris Van Hollen - “I ran against her once, so I know her well. She would inspire many people to vote and bring the progressive policies America needs to the White House. I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect for the nomination and presidency. I do admire a lot of her work inside Congress and outside Congress, too. Experience is an important quality in a president.”

Advertisement #001: Meet Donna Edwards
“Donna Edwards was born in Yanceyville, North Carolina and studied at Wake Forest University in North Carolina and Franklin Pierce Law Center in New Hampshire. Since then, she worked as a District of Columbia Superior Court judge, the executive director of the Foundation for a New Democracy, and executive director of the National Network to End Domestic Violence. In 2008, she was elected to Congress to represent Maryland, where she served on the Economic Development Subcommittee and was considered one of the most reliable Democratic votes. Now, she is running for president on a platform of income equality, helping families, and keeping a sensible foreign policy. And she needs your vote.”

Advertisement #004: Equality
“Equality is an important part of Donna’s campaign. As president, she would ensure equal pay for equal work and advocate for LGBT equality, along with equal access to health care and education, all of which are basic human rights. She would also address the inequality of a system which seems rigged against the African-American community and take measures to create jobs and reduce police violence. A vote for Edwards is a vote for one of the most basic American principles: equality.”

Schedule

December 13

Arrive in Iowa
Rally in Sioux City, Iowa
Rally in Le Mars, Iowa

“Hello, Le Mars. We make a decision every election. In this election, the choice is obvious. It’s more than a choice between candidates in this primary, it’s a choice between ideologies and our futures. We know how to make our economy stronger and fairer, our retirement more secure, our college debt free, and our communities safer. The way is progressivism. We know how to strengthen education, include immigrants, and be a global power through diplomacy, not war. The way is liberalism.”

December 14

Town Hall in Cherokee, Iowa
Town Hall in Storm Lake, Iowa
Town Hall in Lake View, Iowa

December 15

Arrive in New Hampshire
Town Hall in Lancaster, New Hampshire
Town Hall in Franconia, New Hampshire

December 16

Town Hall in Woodstock, New Hampshire
Rally in Laconia, New Hampshire
Rally in Concord, New Hampshire

December 17

Rally in Wilmington, North Carolina
Town Hall in Jacksonville, North Carolina
Town Hall in New Bern, North Carolina

“Many Americans feel they are playing a rigged game. What will you do to fix an economy that seems fixed to provide the wealthy with more wealth and give nothing to those at the middle and bottom?”
“This town’s name is New Bern, and I feel it is aptly named. Four years ago, a candidate came along who inspired us all. His message that the economy is rigged, Wall Street gets too much while Main Street gets too little, resonated with us all. Everyone felt the Bern. Now, we’re ready to feel it again. I agree with Bernie Sanders, the economy is rigged. Bankers have rigged interest rates, millionaires and billionaires grow their obscene amounts of wealth through offshore tax havens, the top 25 hedge fund managers in America make more than every single American kindergarten teacher combined, and we’ve had enough! Close the tax loopholes, protect unions, and raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour! Let’s start a ‘New Bern’ at the ballot box on February 11th.”

December 18

Rally in Greenville, North Carolina
Rally in Raleigh, North Carolina
Rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina

December 19

Rally in Florence, South Carolina

Rally in Bow, New Hampshire

December 21
Town Hall in Amherst, New Hampshire
Rally in Nashua, New Hampshire
Town Hall in Rindge, New Hampshire

December 22

Rally in Mason City, Iowa

“Education is our path to the future. In order for our children to get a good education, we need well-trained teachers who teach our children, not just to take tests, but to love learning as much as they need to in order to get a proper college education and a good career. Under this administration, students are graduating from college almost $40,000 in debt. Under a Donna Edwards presidency, students will graduate from college with zero debt. We will accomplish this by making community college free and lowering interest rates on student loans.”

Town Hall in Clear Lake, Iowa
Town Hall in Hampton, Iowa

Town Hall in Centerville, Iowa
Town Hall in Bloomfield, Iowa

Endorsements

Barbara Mikulski - “I’ve been following her political career ever since she joined Congress, and I’ve seen enough to know that Donna Edwards has an impressive record. She was one of the most progressive representatives in Congress, she showed leadership and transparency, and she missed very few votes. Her issue positions and policy proposals are honestly what I think this country needs. At any rate, she would definitely be better than Hillary Clinton.”

Martin O'Malley - “I am very disappointed in Hillary Clinton. She sent us into Iraq again and her presidency has been very disappointing overall. However, this election cycle hasn’t disappointed me. I’m very happy Donna Edwards decided to run. Edwards has a history of staying true to her word and making good on campaign promises. I also happen to know her better than most, as we both come from Maryland. I can tell you for sure that she would be a true progressive in the White House.”

Elizabeth Warren - “Her candidacy is exciting, not just for me, but for everybody, because not only will she be another ‘first’ but she is also a progressive who is whipping up the liberal base, and I really think she can win if nominated. Her policies are something we desperately need. It would be such a nice relief from the previous four years. Clinton has not lived up to my expectations at all. I’m not going through another primary without mentioning my favorite.”

Advertisement #009: Real Experience
“Donna Edwards is one of the most experienced candidates running. While in Congress, she sponsored numerous bills that aimed to do numerous things such as: prevent drug overdose deaths, safely transport products, encourage workforce training, abolish the death penalty, educate prisoners, expand child care access and education, increase wages, and fund green energy programs. Outside of Congress, she co-founded the National Network to End Domestic Violence before eventually becoming its executive director and was instrumental in passing the 1994 Violence Against Women Act. If you value real experience, then your candidate is Donna Edwards.”

Advertisement #010: Helping Families
“Hello, my name is Donna Edwards. As I’m sure you know, one of the many reasons I am running for president is so that I can help families. Together, we can help every member of the family, from protecting your grandfather’s Social Security, to making sure your son or daughter will have the education and job opportunities he or she needs to make it far in life, and for your sister to make much more than 77 cents for every dollar that her husband makes. We can help every family get ahead, not just the wealthy ones. But in order for all of this to happen, you’ll have to vote for me. I’ll see you on Election Day.”

“You haven’t outlined many foreign policy positions. What are some specifics of your policy?”
“Thank you for asking. I have outlined many positions on my website, and I’ll be happy to share some of my positions with you. First of all, I was calling for a lift on the embargo with Cuba back in 2009. This is one of the areas where John Edwards has a more conservative stance. I am also a big advocate of fair trade and have called for the US to be treated fairly in all of our trade agreements, which is also an issue where we differ. On the Middle East, I wholeheartedly oppose the Iraq War and believe we should only invade the Middle East with full cooperation from the United Nations. However, I would not be against supporting a nation’s own military and police force in order to maintain stability and democracy. I also believe that we should stand with our allies if they are attacked and maintain a relationship with our friends in the United Nations.”

“How would you deal with the issue of police brutality?”
“It seems as if every day we hear another story of an unarmed man being shot by a police officer, a teen girl being manhandled, a woman being arrested for speeding and winding up dead the next day. The names and the stories keep piling up, and there are just so many of them. As president, limiting the use of force, training, and demilitarization of the police would be my top priorities. I would also push for the use of body cams and independent investigations in case events like the ones we constantly hear about still do occur.”

“What is your opinion of Obamacare? Would you abandon it in order to pursue universal health care?”
“I think Obamacare is a wonderful program. It has given healthcare to millions of Americans, and I applaud Obama for passing it. I believe that we can expand Obamacare to cover even more people through it, and even covering more people through expanding other programs if I get elected. While preserving Obamacare in all of its glory, I think we can, over the course of eight years, turn our healthcare system into something that resembles universal healthcare. And I will be able to do this without raising taxes on the middle class.”

Endorsements

Tammy Baldwin - “John Bel Edwards is not what the Democratic Party needs. The fact that he was open to defunding Planned Parenthood really is extremely troubling. He also has other views too conservative for the Democratic Party. The clear choice is Donna Edwards, who is, always has been, and always will fight for progressive causes.”

Barbara Boxer - “I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I have come to the conclusion that the best choice for president this year is Donna Edwards. There are a lot of reasons for this. But the tipping point was John Bel Edwards’ more conservative positions on issues such as abortion, trade, and gun control. These are not the opinions of a true liberal. Donna Edwards is pro-choice, supports fair trade, and common-sense gun control. This is who I want to vote for.”

John Lewis - ”President Clinton did not do anything she said she would do to help the African-American community. It has been greatly disappointing. But I have faith in Donna Edwards to create jobs, tackle poverty, and fix the problem of police violence which cannot be ignored and thankfully Donna Edwards is doing everything but ignoring it. She is the perfect candidate. She'd make a wonderful president, being the progressive that she is. The finest choice this election is Donna Edwards.”

Advertisement #013: Sensible Foreign Policy
“Hello, I’m Donna Edwards. I’m campaigning on a platform of a sensible foreign policy. It is sensible to believe that we should not invade the Middle East without the approval of the international community. It is realistic to believe that we should only occupy the Middle East to ensure stability and democracy. It is logical to believe that we should stand with our allies if they are in danger. It is obvious that the Iraq War is a big mistake. Since I believe all of these, doesn’t that make voting for Donna Edwards sensible?”

Advertisement #016: What America Needs
“America needs many things to be done. As president, Donna Edwards will improve our education system and fight to lower the high price of college tuition. She will speak out and take action against the excessive use of force by police. She will create jobs by pushing for increased infrastructure and better trade deals that would bring back outsourced jobs. She will lower taxes on the lower classes of society. And Edwards will expand welfare, Medicare, and Social Security in order to give impoverished Americans the break that they need. Donna Edwards is the one who can do what America needs, so America needs Donna Edwards.

Opening Statement
"As you all know, my platform consists of three major planks: equality, helping families, and a sensible foreign policy. I support income equality between genders and LGBTQ equality. I support helping children get a high-quality education and helping their parents get a high-quality job. I will get us out of Iraq and make sure our military runs on strength, not size. Along with this comes other components of my campaign such as support for common-sense gun control, a woman's right to choose, and fair trade deals. However, I am now adding a fourth plank to my campaign platform. This plank is economic development. I will support a stimulus, progressive tax rates, and an expansion of Social Security in order to grow the economy. My campaign is built on progress. The future is being decided now. Make sure to vote for Donna Edwards."

What are your plans to get out of the recession and win in November despite President Clinton's lack of popularity?
"We are running a campaign of progress and change. This will inspire many voters to turn out, and it already is. I will also work with the Democratic Party in the general election in order to drive up voter turnout, not just for the presidential election, but also for down ballot races.
"And I have a proposal to fix our crumbling economy. This includes a stimulus package that will create jobs directly and give incentives to companies who will create more jobs. We will also create more jobs by expanding our infrastructure and transportation sectors while at the same time agreeing to fairer trade deals which will slow outsourcing and bring some outsourced jobs back to the United States. But there is one last issue with the economy that needs to be fixed. The amount of wealth inequality is unbelievable. The top 1% are getting 90% of new wealth. Under my economic plan, we will increase assistance to the poor, institute fair taxes, support unions, and raise the minimum wage, which has been proven to spur economic growth. Together we can change the path this country is on."

What is your view on the Iraq War?
"I never thought that the Iraq War was a good idea. Frankly, if we are going to invade a country, I think we ought to have serious reasons to do it. President Clinton had no reason to invade Iraq, especially after the first invasion harmed the region more than it helped. We will pull out of Iraq as quickly as possible once I am in the Oval Office. Military action isn’t necessarily the best course of action in most situations. War should always be on the table, but it should be the last option. Diplomacy to warmongering nations and humanitarian aid to struggling regions should be tried first. If a nation needs stability then we can give their military and police force better training without having our military intervene directly."

To lighten this up a bit, what's your favorite food? Would it be served in the White House, if you were elected?
"My favorite food is barbecued chicken. It’s very delicious. There is this one restaurant on Connecticut Avenue that my son took me to. They made great chicken. I ate it with my fingers. And yes, barbecued chicken would be served at the White House all the time when I am there."

Do you believe President Clinton has failed the black community?
"It depends on how you look at it. The way I see it, Hillary Clinton hasn’t directly harmed the African-American community. Instead, she has failed the African-American community through inaction and apathy. While running for president in 2016, Hillary Clinton promised racial justice, a healthy economy, criminal justice reform, and fixing the problems with certain police practices. None of these promises came true. We are still waiting for Hillary Clinton to deliver. It has been too long. As president, one of my top priorities will be to help the African-American community grow stronger and safer. An America which sends an African-American to prison for longer than a white person for the same offense is not the America I want. Nobody should want it. The problems we currently have aren’t going to solve themselves or be solved within four years. But I think that together we can make a lot of progress towards our goals. Together we can fight for a brighter future. This is what my campaign is about. And we will work to see it happen."
