If that is where Hardiman is, then it might have been better for Senate Democrats to get Trump to pick him in exchange for no total obstruction. Look, the fact that they are even filling this seat is so sleazy it makes me sick, seeing as how they got to this point, but the truth is they are going to fill it. If we block the nominee they will eventually go nuclear. It's not like we have a real good shot at taking the Senate back in 2018. Our shot was 2016, and we blew it. We can't block for 4 years. If I thought we could actually block them from filling it for 4 years, I might actually be fine with that, just to show them that they can't pull dirty stunts like that and get away with it, but the reality is we are unable to sustain a blockade.

Rage and revenge in this case really gets us nothing. The smart choice would have been to try and bargain for a more favorable pick in return for cooperation.

Many of the biggest whiners in the Senate about the supreme court are people like Harry Reid, and Patrick Leahy who slandered Bork for political reasons. Getting screwed over on a pick was overdue justice

You think rejecting Reagan's pick and forcing another was grounds for outright rejecting any pick from Obama, just so they could fill the seat themselves? Don't you have any idea of proportional response? Democrats forced a moderate back then, and this time Obama didn't even give Republicans a chance to reject a liberal pick. He just went right to a moderate, and your party still stole it.

You can try and pull all these flimsy historical arguments out of your butt all day if you want, but it's never going to justify what Mitch did. Escalating judicial battles like this is crazy and frankly, strategically unwise, because your party will not always hold all the cards, and I doubt Democrats are going to forget this in the future.

And yes, Bork and Estrada are comparable to Garland, all three were defeated, one way or the other. I'm sure no one of them will tell you that the treatment he got was more unfair then what the others got.

The only reason you think it's comparable is because this is your "side" and you're reaching for whatever it takes to justify their actions. If your party wants to trash a nominee as payback, whatever, just do like Democrats did and confirm someone in the end. That's the difference here. We didn't steal scotus seats from you.

Nothing that man could accomplish is more important than ending abortion.  And, the USA is in no danger, anyway.

Well, at least no one can say you don't stick by your principles on at least this one issue.. even if it does continue to cause the degradation of our government and elections due to an "win by any means necessary" approach.

Don't take what we have for granted. There are consequences to that kind of behavior.

Which is to demoralise and dishearten an overreaching judiciary.

Why even have a judiciary anyway? Let's just fold all the branches of government into the White House. We can also schedule the next presidential election for 2024, where the two candidates will be members of Trump's family!
