If Ellison has anything to do with the success of the DFL party in Minnesota, then he's probably a good choice.
The right will demonize him as a radical black muslim convert with questionable ties from his past.

But as a congressman he has brought DFL values to Washington and represents a majority NH white district.

I've said this a few times now:

My heart says Ellison.  He's a Minnesotan and I think he's a genuinely good person.

But my mind and gut say Howard Dean.  Tried and true.  Governor from a small, rural state.  Progressive/liberal.  Believes in including everyone without litmus tests as a big tent left wing party.  Is not in congress.

Logic dictates Howard Dean.  Heartstrings play an Ellison song.

What is your take on Dean's work as a lobbyist? If the best that Democratic Party can do in 2016 is someone who's spent the past several years advocating on behalf of pharmaceutical companies, I may as well shoot myself.

This.  Howie Dean is like Fredo in the Godfather 2:  He broke my heart.

He was like, one of my idols - a principled, unapologetic, populist 2004 candidate, then a ruthless, strategic, progressive DNC chair.

Then he got that weird haircut, nice suits, and (most critically) turned on the single payer plank he based his campaign on in 2004 in order to cash in.

Bottom Line:  I don't trust him.

LOLOLOL at this list of "anti-semitic Keith Ellison controversies:"

http://heavy.com/news/2016/11/keith-ellison-controversy-controversies-israel-nation-of-islam-louis-farrakhan-anti-semitic-comments-george-bush-hitler-american-islamic-relations-campaign-contributions/

Exactly zero of these are "anti-semitic."

*****

Also LOLOL at Alan Dershowitz saying that the majority of the anti-semitism in the USA is on the left with Keith Ellison and Black Lives Matter.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/11/15/dershowitz_hard_left_is_very_anti-semitic_keith_ellison_black_lives_matter.html

What a joke.  Dershowitz is a brilliant lawyer; it's a shame he is one of those "anyone who isn't stridently anti-palestine is automatically a raging anti-semite" hacks.

Love the goysplaining Roll Eyes Derschowitz is entirely right.

IDK what the difference is between 1) Ellison being damned by association by mentioning Farrakhan in college despite never actually saying anything anti-semitic and 2) Bannon being damned by association with Breitbart despite never actually saying anything anti semitic (at least according to anybody other than his ex-wife).

I guess #1 is okay to do because Ellison is anti-settlement expansion and #2 is not okay to do because Bannon is staunchly pro-hawkish current israeli govt?

I can't believe the Obama admin has the BALLS to try to meddle in the DNC race after totally gutting its infrastructure in favor of OFA.

Watch this, and if you still support Perez after watching it, you're no progressive:

What a pathetic, stupid, little man.

Is Perez really being backed by the "establishment?"

I thought Ellison had most of the endorsements.

Perez is being pushed pretty hard by the Obama admin

I'm not sure if sounding like Hillary Clinton is a good move for Perez.

It's not enough to be progressive—We need a progressive who gets things done.

Personally I never liked this slogan because it seemed to imply the natural state of a progressive is someone that doesn't do anything.

Hahaha no, it's not.  The case for Perez over Ellison that is currently being made is totally vacuous.

If Perez and the Obama camp want to make a good faith argument, they should talk about why Perez's strategy is superior to Ellison's for bringing the Democrats back into the promised land long-term.

Kind of hard to make any comparisons, considering Ellison doesn't seem to even have a strategy.

TBF, both have been pretty, maybe unacceptably vague, but Ellison said 50 state strategy/having an unabashed aggressive message+policy programme that goes after working class voters even if its at the expense of large corporate donors.  Perez said he too believes in a 50 state strategy.

The point is that there isn't that much to recommend Perez over Ellison, other than the Obama camp likes him better, which should be a red flag.  I guess if you're a pro-settlement hardliner, that's a reason to avoid Ellison.
