The Oregon results won't be released until after 11:00 pm Eastern, according to CNN.  This means it could be a long night for me.  I normally like to go to bed by 11:00 Central, but it may be 12:00 or 1:00.

They said that Obama won't speak until closer to midnight Eastern after the Oregon results start coming in at 11:00 pm EDT.

Exit polls apparently indicate a tie among blue-collar workers and Obama killing among youth.

You're cheating!!! I'm just kidding, but I usually wait until the polls have closed to peek at the exit polls!   Wink

This does indicate Obama may be exceeding expectations in places like Roseburg, Albany, Grasham, and Coos Bay.

Welcome to the forum, Oregon Progressive!!!  What do you expect the margin of victory to be in your state?

Hey, Oregon Progressive.  Does Oregon have a mail-in general election?  If so, when does it start?

Not surprising; I'd not call on a useless phone poll, either.

I was kinda thinking they weren't going to call the state immediately.  Apparently, MSNBC has already called it.

From the projection, Obama has snagged 9 pledged delegates compared to 2 for Hillary Clinton.  That puts him 85 delegates away from 2,026.

It's Albany.  Heavily working class, conservative Republicans and culturally conservative Democrats, very much the kind of area where Clinton should be doing extremely well.  The same essentially goes for Douglas County to the south.

Ah, I figured something was favoring her in those two counties.

im a little confused about how they do things in oregon.

1.  the media kept saying the polls close at 8 pt in oregon.  how can the polls close if it was a mail in vote?  was there a place you could drop off your ballot in person until 8pm?

2.  are the ballots optical scan?

I know the ballot drop-off sites were open until 8 pt.  I couldnt tell you about optical scan, though.

The count is 58-42 with 51% in.  Will the margin widen, shrink, or remain the same for the last half?

There are only 6 counties in the center portion of the state that hasn't reported anything, yet (according to CNN's map).

Shrink with the remaining counties then widen as the late votes come in.
Why would the late vote favor Obama? Doesn't Clinton usually win late deciders?

Also, it's pretty interesting that Obama did better among union members than he among non-union members. I guess union endorsements do work.

These late votes or just the last ones to be counted.  Not mentioning any of how they decided.

Late voters in vote-by-mail = Lazy voters

Lazy voters = Young voters

Young voters = Obama voters

I like that math!!

More delegates have been allocated.  21 pledged for Obama so far and 14 for Clinton.  There are 52 pledged delegates total, so there are still 17 delegates to be awarded.

CNN's count now stands at 1,953 for Obama (73 from nomination) and 1,770 for Clinton (256 away from nomination and 183 delegates behind Obama).

That was a nice segment that Larry King devoted just to Teddy Kennedy.

So is Clinton going to net a few delegates tonight?

So far, she is netting 16 delegates with the two states combined.  However, there are still 17 delegates outstanding in Oregon and all of them are counted in Kentucky.

By the way, a random Oregon fact from my Wikipedia perusings: Gilliam County contains the tiny city of Lonerock, where men have a median income of $0.

Personally, I can't wait to see the results out of Greenhorn  Smiley

"In later years, the old Greenhorn Jail (dating to 1910) was removed to Canyon City, Oregon under suspicious circumstances."

The Wikipedia article makes it sound like the jail disappeared overnight so everyone got confused and left.

Personally, I find the "Demographics" section most classic. It's simple and beautiful.

"As of the census[1] of 2000, there are no people living in the city."

In fact, it must be the fastest growing city in the country! An infinite growth rate, from 0 in 2000 to 2 in 2007. (Who I suspect are squatters who will not fill out census forms.)

No, I think the bears must have filled them out. Tongue

As one of my friends who grew up in Deridder, Louisiana (near Lake Charles) said.  "There just a few people and a lot of coon dogs".
