What are we defining as "support" here? Is the Atlasian government being authorized to actually do something in response to the aggressions of the Syrian government against its own people, or is this merely an acknowledgement of the violence that's been carried out?
Given that this is a resolution, probably the latter.
My concern with this resolution is its potential to be used later as justification for war or escalation of our military power in the region, as early proponents of the Iraq War in the United States used the Iraq Liberation Act to support their cause.
Obviously one difference is that bill is an act whereas the bill we are debating now is a resolution, but I'm not comfortable signing off on something that does not help the oppressed people in the region but may or may not be seen as a catalyst for war or nation-building.
