And just this minute, they adopted the following amendment change:

"Children raised in a traditional two-parent household tend to be physically and emotionally healthier, less likely to use drugs and alcohol, engage in crime or become pregnant outside of marriage"

So much for trying not to further alienate minorities

While there is some empirical evidence that suggests that two-parent households are more stable, you can bet the platform drafters gave zero thought to any socioeconomic factors that make single parenthood a requirement for many women (and men, for that matter) rather than a choice and will prob just pin it on "moral failings" and the usual claptrap.

One Trump delegate who spoke opposed it for attacking single mothers like herself. It was immediately followed by a delegate proclaiming "We've been for traditional marriage since the 1860's and polygamy. Why stop now for 1% of Americans?"

First openly gay RNC delegate just proposed a general marriage equality amendment. Dropping poll numbers regarding gay marriage support among millennials, particularly republican evangelicals Quickly defeated, although by hand vote rather than voice vote (As requested by the delegate). Around 10-15 votes in support of it.

Watching online on C-Span, so excuse the live updates.

Platform meeting just concluded, but not before defeating an amendment labeling marijuana legalization a state issue protected under the Constitution

Fun and revealing watch overall. The Cruz delegates seemed to win today

Honestly, pretty weak. It was a Maine delegate that brought it up on largely libertarian grounds (States rights, goes against 10th amendment). It was followed up with a delegate stating that it was a divisive amendment meant to get delegates to support marijuana legalization which "doesn't need to be addressed in the platform". Failed unanimously with the Maine delegate being the only aye vote.

I believe a marijuana amendment was addressed and voted on anyway in the first 2 hours of the meeting, so it would have been redundant to bring the last one up
