Institutional discrimination against people for their inherent qualities is still federal policy in the "land of the free" in 2017. I'm sure similar arguments were or could've been used to ban women, gay persons from military service, and equal treatment of African Americans before them. It's just an excuse to justify ongoing discrimination and bigotry against a highly disadvantaged group in America.

I'd say Trump and Republicans should be ashamed of themselves, but they have no shame. Just wait until the Trump lovers come in here to praise or rationalize this transphobia.

There are likely some similarities. I can already see where Trump and the GOP are heading with these culture war issues; they're remaking the temporarily successful culture wars of the Bush Administration, albeit in a different form. They want to force Democrats into campaigning on Transgender issues and Muslim immigration, which they believe could hurt them in competitive states and districts.

Good point. They're only <1% of the population, so why craft bathroom bills and transphobic rules for military service that explicitly targets such a tiny minority of the population? Let people continue to use whatever bathroom they want and allow the military to screen for recruits on a person-by-person basis. There. Problem solved.

At this point, I'm not really sure what this was all about. So, Trump announced a ban on future admission of transgender persons into the military via Twitter after being threatened by House Republicans who said they'd block certain elements of the budget he supports, yet it's not even clear who's going to implement this executive order that has vocal opposition from numerous Congressional Republicans and General Mattis? What the hell was the point of that?
